Prerequisites:
- Azure account
- Azure CLI installed (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cli/azure/install-azure-cli)
- some Linux distribution to run commands and scripts
This workshop will provision a Ubuntu 22.04 VM in Microsoft Azure. All required steps and commands can be found in the Workshop_Linux_Server_101.odp
presentation. As mentioned above, you will need an account for Microsoft Azure.
To provision multiple accounts and resource groups in Azure for demo or training pursposes, the azure_provisioning.sh
script can be used. This is not required to follow the workshop steps in the LibreOffice presentation. As the name suggests, withcleanup.sh
everything can be removed from Azure again. The functions
file is sourced by the scripts for use. You do not need this file directly, but of course you are free to use it any way you like.
The azure_provisioning.sh
script requires 2 files to be present: .az_cred
and .var
which provides all required environment variables for the scripts.
The .az_cred
file should contain:
az_username="<your Azure username>"
az_password="<your Azure password>"
The .var
file should contain:
location="<Azure location you want the resources to be deployed. E.g. westeurope">
subscription="<the Azure subscription you want to use>"
prefix="<a prefix to use for all accounts and resources created (and deleted) with the scripts>"
mydomain="<the domain you want to use for the created Azure accounts. E.g. atcomputing.nl">
To prevent git
from syncing your Azure credentials or environment variables to a public repo, .var
and .az_cred
should be ignored and are therefore added to .gitignore
. Also, the files created by the az_provisioning.sh
script are added to .gitignore
just to make sure they are not added tot the index.
See https://git-scm.com/docs/gitignore for more information on this.
