Subtitle Edit 5.4.0 is out - 23 days after the 5.3.0 release, collecting the work of 12 betas and 4 release candidates.

What's new since 5.3.0

• New look: a more compact and polished UI - almost all windows redesigned in one modern editor look, with live theme switching and new SVG icons that are sharp at any display scale
• New themes: Nord, Midnight Cinema and Sakura, a visual theme picker with preview cards (Settings > Appearance) and background art for the video player and waveform
• Sync subtitle to audio: ffsubsync-style offset and frame rate detection, plus Sync audio track with live preview
• YouTube timed text (.ytt/srv3): pens, positions, preview and a styles window
• Export: D-Cinema SMPTE 2014 as MXF track file, Excel dialogue list (.xlsx) with chosen columns, and Blu-ray sup with an HDR (BT.2020 PQ) palette
• Check for updates: install and restart on Windows, Linux and macOS
• Auto-translate: source and translation side by side, translate selected rows together with context, new Opper engine
• OCR: optional video preview, Video OCR of chosen time ranges, and new LightOnOCR-3, LFM3-VL and QARI-OCR (Arabic) models
• ASSA: ASSA draw with text, groups and animations, a CapCut-style "Apply advanced effect" gallery with six new caption effects, and image-based export that draws ASSA styles and many more tags
• SubRip reader rewritten: tolerant of damaged files and 2.6-12x faster
• Multiple replace works like SE4 again: categories, flat rule list and edit in place
• More: custom error rules (regex), auto-wrap while typing, reload when the file is changed by another program, record speech to the text box, and many new shortcuts
• Translations: all language files synced with English, plus new Romanian and Croatian UI translations
• Bug fixes and minor improvements
