WattWall v0.4.0.

  • Windows 10/11 x64: WattWall_*_x64-setup.exe (per-machine installer, updates itself) or WattWall_*_x64-portable.exe (asks for administrator each launch; no logon autostart).
  • SHA256SUMS.txt has a checksum for every file.

Requirements: the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. The installer fetches it if it is missing. The portable exe does not.

Changes: see the decisions.

WattWall v0.3.0

New

  • Block all internet access. One switch cuts every program off the network, like ZoneAlarm's internet lock, and closes the connections already open. It asks first, the tray wall turns red, and it stays on across restarts until you choose Allow internet (window or tray menu). From an administrator prompt, WattWall.exe --allow-all turns it off and --block-all turns it on.
  • VirusTotal check (off until you turn it on in Settings). WattWall hashes each program with SHA-256 and looks the hash up with your own VirusTotal API key, within your key's limits, and shows the result beside each program, for example 0/72. Only hashes are sent, never files. Read limits from VirusTotal fills in what your key really allows. Click a result to see which engines flagged it and copy the report link. The key is stored encrypted, and a refused lookup shows VirusTotal's own reason.
  • Columns. Both lists are tables with Program, VirusTotal and Status columns, so results line up.

Fixed

  • The tray menu no longer closes by itself a second after it opens, and a left click on the tray icon opens the window without flashing the menu.
  • The tray menu explains itself: a status line, then the programs online now (tick one to block it) sorted by name, Block all internet access, Turn all blocks off, Open WattWall and Quit WattWall.

Downloads

  • WattWall_0.3.0_x64-setup.exe: installs for all users into C:\Program Files\WattWall, starts with Windows hidden in the tray and updates itself. Installed copies of 0.2.0 update to this by themselves.
  • WattWall_0.3.0_x64-portable.exe: runs without installing; asks for administrator each time it opens and cannot start with Windows.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: a checksum for every file.

Requires Windows 10 or 11 (x64) and the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (the installer fetches it if it is missing). Documentation: swatto.co.uk/tools/wattwall.

WattWall v0.2.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Sep 21:35

New

  • New look. A brick-wall app icon, and a redesigned window in light and dark themes, with the protection status and the last minute of traffic in the header.
  • Live tray and taskbar icon. A small brick wall with a red bar for data sent and a green bar for data received, redrawn every second like ZoneAlarm's tray meter. The wall turns grey while blocks are off. The taskbar button shows the same icon.
  • Settings says that starting with Windows opens WattWall hidden in the tray, and Check now reports its result.

Fixed

  • The list keeps keyboard focus when it refreshes, and dialogs keep focus until they close.

Downloads

  • WattWall_0.2.0_x64-setup.exe: installs for all users into C:\Program Files\WattWall, starts with Windows hidden in the tray and updates itself.
  • WattWall_0.2.0_x64-portable.exe: runs without installing; asks for administrator each time it opens and cannot start with Windows.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: a checksum for every file.

Requires Windows 10 or 11 (x64) and the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. Documentation: swatto.co.uk/tools/wattwall.
