WireFox bridges the missing link of WireGuard on Windows: intelligent background roaming, hardware ARP anti-spoofing, and kernel-level tunnel watchdog protection.

v1.0.9 is a dedicated OS lifecycle and shell integration update. With the background engine now running continuously without interruption, real-world multi-day testing surfaced a subtle Windows reboot catch: leaving the app open on screen across a PC restart could cause close-to-tray logic to stall Windows shutdown.

🔄 Clean OS Shutdown & Reboot Handling

  • Graceful Session Ending: WireFox now explicitly hooks Windows SessionEnding (WM_QUERYENDSESSION). Instead of intercepting the window close to keep running in the tray, WireFox steps aside during system reboots and shutdowns, cleanly unhooking drivers and exiting without stalling the OS or getting forcefully killed.

🛡️ System Tray & Shell Resilience

  • Explorer Startup & Crash Recovery: Added native handling for the Win32 TaskbarCreated message. If Windows Explorer finishes loading slightly after WireFox launches at logon, or if Explorer crashes and restarts, the Fox Shield tray icon automatically and immediately revives itself.

🪟 Windows 11 Foreground Window Focus

  • Instant Foreground Focus: When launching WireFox from the Start Menu or desktop shortcut while the background watchdog is active, the launcher now grants explicit foreground permissions (AllowSetForegroundWindow). This bypasses Windows 11 ASFW restrictions and guarantees the existing window restores cleanly to the front instead of staying behind other apps.

🐛 Stability & Diagnostic Hardening

  • Safe Mutex Lifecycle: Eliminated a .NET Runtime ApplicationException that could occur on secondary process exit due to cross-thread mutex release.
  • Unified Diagnostic Logs: Routed low-level unhandled exception dumps directly to %LOCALAPPDATA%\WireFox\app.log alongside standard service logs, preventing silent write failures inside protected Program Files installations.
  • Pinned Wait Handle Lifetime: Persisted single-instance IPC wait handles across the full process lifecycle to prevent garbage collection during extended background runs.
