Downloads and starting firmware
Use bb1-2.0.fwsc together with the matching bb1-sounds-1.4.bin. The source archive and browser corresponding-source ZIP are included. SHA256SUMS pins all four downloads.
The prepared BB1 installer admits corrected BB1 1.5 (FM-1_92200105) or this exact 2.0 identity (FM-1_92200200). Do not assume a different firmware family or an old FM-1_900 package is interchangeable. Back up material before switching firmware; scene compatibility and byte preservation are separate questions. Earlier releases remain available for rollback.
Known issue and verification scope
This release is published at the owner's direction with one known native audio deadline overrun deferred to a minor follow-up: a callback took 6,031.5 microseconds against a 5,802.667 microsecond deadline, recording one deadline exceed and one DMA miss. Later separate bounded runs were clean; they do not explain the original event or prove uninterrupted playback under every workload. A glitch remains possible.
The native build and package are independently reproduced. The corrected SONG/audio/navigation checks and the website's 969-test suite pass at their documented scopes. App-only installation and return to corrected 1.5 passed with two byte-identical readbacks of app, user and both sound regions. The matched-library return is now proven: original1.2 sounds and corrected1.5 firmware were restored, followed by2.0 and library1.4; two full readbacks at each endpoint matched the fresh saved-data reference and unchanged regionB. Formal whole-stack acceptance and exhaustive physical/persistence qualification are not represented as completed passes. These limitations remain disclosed; publication does not convert them into test results.
The measurement/profiling firmware is not part of this release. The playable 2.0 emulator already exists; browser results are separate from physical FM-1 timing. Licence and source notices remain included; no proprietary toolchain is redistributed.
BB-1 1.5
Identity-only supplement — BB-1 1.5
Version remains 1.5. Machine/updater identity is corrected from FM-1_900 to FM-1_92200105, displayed as BB-1 1.5. No musical features change. USB product remains Big Beat.
Use bb1-1.5-id.fwsc and its matching source, with SHA256SUMS-ID. Corrected source main: b0b9c01acd1edeccf25fc35716f9f29d424a59c5.
The original v1.5 tag, original package and original source assets remain historical; GitHub automatic tag archives contain the original source. The supplemental source above matches the corrected package. Real-device install, complete application readback, and Felucca exit/return passed with user data and both sound regions preserved. Earlier stock-transition and timing evidence belongs to the original 1.5 package; no new cold-power-cycle or stock-transition claim is made for this supplement.
BB1 1.5
BB1 1.5 adds a205-phrase ACID bank, song tempos and swing, regrouped drum sections, and MIDI input settings.
- **ACID:**27 banks/205 phrases on Dillo's PATTERN page, alongside ERA and SONG, with charted accents and slides adapted to Dillo's steps.
- Song timing: loading a different song brings its catalogue tempo and swing; changing sections within the same song preserves the performer's tempo. Tainted Love carries72BPM/66%swing.
- Patterns: multi-bar drum sections are regrouped, and song accompaniment data is revised in the editable catalogue.
- MIDI input over USB and TRS: default KIT A channel10, KIT B11, Dillo1. Dillo supports CC7level, CC74cutoff, CC71resonance, CC120sound-off and CC123notes-off. GLOBAL>MIDI configures channels, clock source, tempo follow and Start/Stop. Clock output remainsOFF. The second synth channel is reserved in this release build.
- HOME: pattern names clear the row above them.
This release uses the candidate profile: BB_WITH_TELEGRAM0, BB_FIXA0, BB_AUDIO_PROFILE0. The firmware's sound-library image is unchanged from1.2.
FM-1 acceptance: exact c04 application and unchanged sound-library readback verified; saved user data preserved. Native T1 and T2 each ran65.2audio-seconds and stopped cleanly, with no recorded budget exceed, DMA miss, audio fault or CPU1 failure. T1 maximum5475.3µs against5802.7µs budget; T2 retained that boot-cumulative upper bound and observed no new isolated peak. Physical ACID browsing, all three SELECT focuses and the Square Acid panel walkthrough were not performed remotely; browser/source evidence remains separate. See BB1-1.5-HARDWARE-RECEIPT.json in the source bundle. No preferred4640µs target pass is claimed.
Known issue: the browser can play a song at87BPM while its header/control mirror retains120. The first GLOBAL tempo increment then jumps to121 rather than88. Set the intended tempo explicitly. This functional UI issue remains open; physical FM-1 manifestation has not been tested.
Downgrading to1.2 resets global panel/favourite preferences because1.5 adds MIDI settings to that record. Scenes from1.2 load in1.5. Preserved scene bytes do not establish backward decoding compatibility:1.2 refuses experimental scenes with LEAD enabled. MIDI clock output is a future stage.

The Acid Tabs phrases are credited to J. McConaghy / Acid-Tabs.com (acid-tabs.com), licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 (licence). They have been renamed, revoiced and retimed for Dillo. The bank also adapts the Acid Voice famous-pattern charts. BB1 1.2: eight machines
BB1 1.2 adds four sampled drum machines, fixes saving, and makes room for what comes next.
What's new in 1.2
- Eight machines on either drum layer: the synthesised 808, plus sampled LinnDrum, DrumTraks, DMX
and, new, LM-1, Simmons, Rhythm King and Drumulator. - 24 sample voices instead of 16, so dense patterns on the new kits keep every hit.
- Saving into a scene that holds other data: BB1 shows SCENE n HAS OTHER DATA / HOLD SAVE TO REPLACE and writes
nothing. Hold SAVE for two seconds to replace it. BB1 never loads that old data. - Scenes saved with 1.0 or 1.1 still load.
- Leaner and sturdier: unused stock code removed (about 15 KB of code and 23 KB of memory freed), and the latest
Felucca hardening ported: UART receive, the core-1 hold and fault handling, LEDs dark during flash erase. - The sound engine is unchanged.
Known limits
- Tested on an FM-1: 1.2 installs and its seven-machine library reads back exactly, your saved data is untouched, and the 808 plays cleanly. Saving over other data works on the device: save, load, a power cycle, a second save, and a return to 1.1 and back. The four new machines load; they haven't yet been played through every pattern on the device.
- Headroom, substitute voices, music export, the browser player: as in 1.1.
Install
thebigbeat.app/fm1/install in Chrome or Edge, press Install BB1. The new
sound library is written in the same step. Your scenes stay as they are.
