DK64Recomp-NX v1.1.2 (void textures fixed)

Choose a tag to compare

@jean-treves jean-treves released this 11 Oct 13:46

Fixes the textures that went black after a long session, and makes 60 fps Interpolated smoother while running.

What's new since v1.1.1

  • Textures no longer go black or noisy after playing a while. The Switch's GPU service (nvdrv) keeps one record per texture in a memory area that libnx sizes at 8 MiB. GLideN64 keeps up to 8,000 textures, and past about 5,000 every new texture failed to load (GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY), which showed as black or noisy surfaces until the game was restarted. The area is now 32 MiB. On the console, a tour of seven levels with the texture cache full (8,000 textures, more than 10,000 created) gave no error, where the old build failed from 5,200 textures.

  • Resolution 4x (1080p, experimental): 1280x960 drawn into a 1920x1080 picture, 16:9 kept, for a docked console. It costs more GPU time and was measured at 1428 MHz only. Settings > Display > Resolution, then Restart Game.

  • Dev Tools > Warp now waits for a loaded file: a warp from the intro left the main menu without input.

DK64Recomp-NX v1.1.1 (Tag Anywhere included)

Choose a tag to compare

@jean-treves jean-treves released this 10 Oct 22:38

Tag Anywhere is now in the box. The game is unchanged since v1.1.0: same dk64recomp.nro.

No game assets are included. You need your own Donkey Kong 64 (USA) ROM.

What's new since v1.1.0

  • Tag Anywhere 1.0.3: switch Kong from (almost) anywhere, without going back to a tag barrel. D-Pad Left goes back through the Kongs, D-Pad Right forward.
  • Tag Anywhere Sparkles 1.0.1: a sparkle and a sound when you tag, each with its own switch in the mod's options.
  • Both are in switch/dk64recomp/mods/ and start turned off: open NX Options (− and + together), turn on Tag Anywhere Sparkles in Enhancements → Mods (it brings Tag Anywhere with it), then press Restart Game.

Both mods are public domain (CC0). The files are those of each project's latest release, unchanged. Thanks to Killklli, to Isotarge and the authors of the original ROM hack, and to Ballaam.

Install or update

  1. Extract DK64Recomp-NX-v1.1.1.zip to the root of your SD card. It creates or replaces switch/dk64recomp/dk64recomp.nro, cheats.cht and the two mods in mods/. Your saves, nx_options.txt and other mods are kept.
  2. First install only: copy your ROM to sdmc:/switch/dk64recomp/ (.z64, .n64 or .v64; .z64 SHA-1 cf806ff2603640a748fca5026ded28802f1f4a50).
  3. Launch with Atmosphère's Game+R method (hold R while starting a game), then pick DK64: Recompiled in the Homebrew Menu.

DK64Recomp-NX v1.1.0 (DK64: Recompiled 1.0.3)

Choose a tag to compare

@jean-treves jean-treves released this 10 Oct 19:07

Second release of the Nintendo Switch port of Donkey Kong 64: Recompiled 1.0.3.

No game assets are included. You need your own Donkey Kong 64 (USA) ROM.

What's new since v1.0.0

  • NX Options (− and + together), laid out as the HarbourMasters ports' menus: Settings, Enhancements and Dev Tools tabs, with checkboxes, choice lists and sliders, an Orange or Gray theme, and adjustable opacity and size. Changes are saved to nx_options.txt.
  • Frame rate from 30 to 60 fps in steps of 5 (experimental), with a Frame Rate Mode:
    • Interpolated (the default): the game keeps its 30 steps per second and an in-between image is drawn between them, as the PC version does with RT64. A frame too heavy for both passes shows without its in-between, so the game never slows down; frames slowed only by textures loaded the first time a room is seen keep theirs.
    • True (experimental): the game itself runs more frames per second (50-61 at the stock CPU clock where the game allows, 61-63 with CPU Boost), with DK at the same running speed, but much of the game (animations, enemies, timers) runs faster than intended: the game looks much faster. Interpolated is the mode to play with. The DK Rap and the intros always stay at 30.
    • At 60 fps the CPU clock matters most: the two passes of a frame take 18.1 ms at 1020 MHz in a busy DK Isles view, 11.6 ms with CPU Boost. With Horizon OC, CPU Boost or a game profile without its CPU governor keeps 60 fps steady.
  • Overlays: FPS counter, performance overlay, Input Viewer (the pad, bottom right), Gameplay Timer (the file's play time).
  • Mods, with a Mods section to turn each one on or off and set its options.
  • GameShark cheats: a corrected cheats.cht is included. The libretro file's Infinite Health empties the melons on save, and four of its codes write to the wrong place.
  • Clock Profile: the docked GPU in handheld, Horizon OC's docked clocks, or CPU Boost (1785 MHz, needs Horizon OC; it turns Horizon OC's CPU governor off for the game). Clocks are released when you leave the game.
  • Display: Texture LOD (off by default, keeps the Kongs' eyes sharp), a Standard or N64 3-point texture filter, and master, music and sound volumes.
  • Controls: Face Buttons option (swap A and B).
  • Quit Game and Restart Game buttons.
  • Dev Tools: map and position overlay, warp to any level, inventory, unlocks, and game flags.
