I created a fresh 2018q2 base 64 zone (18.2.0). When I started there I tried to install build essential and got some confusing results. The first time I tried to install it, it said nothing was available. I asked a second time and nothing was available. I then did a pkgin ls to check, certainly none of it was installed. I asked a final time and now it thinks it can be installed. Transcript follows:

[root@cross-dev ~]# pkgin in build-essentiail

Are those build-essentiail typos as typed? I definitely need to add better error messages to distinguish between nothing to do due to the package already being installed, and the package not being available (as it wouldn't be in this case).

Sigh, almost certainly. Sorry for the noise here. I didn't realize it was a typo there. I guess I retyped it correctly.

Changes since b142:

Beta #147 - 08.04.2019
- Fixed a bug from beta #146 where the sample playback line in Smp. Ed. could
wrongly be rendered if you switched samples after using the
  "Play Wave/Range/Display" function.
- Updated some of the help text in "Known bugs"

Beta #146 - 02.04.2019
- Fixed a bug where you couldn't select envelope points appropriately
  (bug present since beta #140).
- Fixed a problem where the pattern data scrolling would start to stutter more
if you left the song playing for a minute or so.
- Fixed a problem that made the scopes slightly delayed to the music. Most
people won't notice a difference, though.
- Fixed a scope bug where it could display one frame of bogus data before a
  new sample trigger.
- More fixes to .MOD/.STM/.S3M import
- Made some changes to the help text
("How to use FT2", "Problems/FAQ", "Known bugs").

Beta #145 - 31.03.2019
- Fixed some bugs in the .MOD saving routine
- Slightly improved the .STM loader

Beta #144 - 30.03.2019 (updated 30.03.2019)
- Further fixing to prevent more possible stutter with vsync (60Hz monitor)
  on some monitors (rare case).
>> 30.03.2019:
- Sometimes the mouse would be off center when toggling fullscreen mode
- Forgot to round when doing mouse scaling
- 1.5-bit dithering wasn't implemented properly

Beta #143 - 29.03.2019
- Scopes have been lowered from 60Hz to 55Hz to prevent random stutters
on some systems because of timing interference. If your monitor is not
running at 59Hz/60Hz, they will stutter anyways.
- Fixed a bug where the pattern delay (EEx) effect was not reset every time you
  press Play.

slant in the wrong direction. #198
  - Fixes issue (regression) with variable font where version metadata would be
    wrong. #202
  - Fixes codepoint mapping for /copyleft glyph. #203
  - Improves metadata of variable fonts. “fullName” name table entry is now
    “Inter” instead of “Inter Regular”.
  - New alternate-named variable font “Inter V”. With a different family name,
this is useful for when you want to install the variable version alongside
    traditional static font files.
  - Improvements to /backslash glyph

v3.10
@rsms rsms released this Sep 7, 2019 · 35 commits to master since this release
Release 3.10 is a mix of new glyphs & glyph changes, and adjustments & fixes.

New glyphs:

  - blackSquare (U+25A0)
  - whiteSquare (U+25A1)
  - whiteRoundedCornersSquare (U+25A2)

  - topHalfWhiteSquare (U+2B13)
  - downWhiteTriangle (U+25BD)
  - upWhiteTriangle (U+25B3)
  - leftWhiteTriangle (U+25C1, U+25C5)
  - rightWhiteTriangle (U+25B7, U+25BB)

  - Refinements and improvements to fractions (both dedicated glyphs and
    arbitrary frac parts)
  - Kerning improvements to all weights
  - Progress on mark and mkmk “dynamic diacritics”

v3.9
@rsms rsms released this Aug 7, 2019 · 58 commits to master since this release

Fixes an issue with metadata where Medium, Semi Bold, and Extra Bold would
incorrectly be marked as “italic” which would confuse certain software.

v3.8
@rsms rsms released this Aug 5, 2019 · 62 commits to master since this release

  - Possibly breaking change: Variable italic axis (really, slnt axis) has been
inverted (negated) — a negative value causes the text to lean rightwards.
This is only a breaking change if you are using the multi-axis variable
font (Inter.var) and define slant angle using high-level CSS properties
like font-style. This change was done to comply with the convention defined
in the OpenType spec. #175 #172
  - Variable font files are now significantly smaller thanks to #171 and #169
      □ Inter.var.woff2 v3.7: 393kB, v3.8: 306kB
      □ Inter-upright.var.woff2 v3.7: 267kB, v3.8: 224kB
      □ All this while v3.8 introduces a whole new set of glyphs, kerning and
        feature code.
  - Adds several new glyphs, like double-stemmed arrows and enclosed
    alphanumerics & symbols
      □ Warning sign #168
      □ Copyleft symbol #165
      □ Really long arrows, useful in ligatures like --->
      □ Arrows with double-lined stems, useful for “assign to”, with ligatures
defined for some combinations with equals, e.g. =>
      □ Enclosed glyphs in circles and squares
  - Fixes a bug where U+0430 Cyrillic lower-case a would not be substituted for
    a single-storey “a” with cv11 enabled. #179
  - Fixes a bug with slant of Ͽ (U+03FF) #170 #169
  - Some calt code has moved to liga (standard ligatures), specifically arrow
ligatures. Automatic case alignment is still kept in calt. So, you can now
disable calt to disable only case alignment, and disable liga to only
    disable arrow ligatures.
  - Improvements to kerning, spacing and letterform details
  - Improved Microsoft Windows installation instructions #173

v3.7
@rsms rsms released this May 31, 2019 · 103 commits to master since this

v3.6
@rsms rsms released this May 27, 2019 · 123 commits to master since this
release

fitted incorrectly by ClearType on Microsoft Windows #119
  - Fixes an issue with using case and calt features in combination where arrow
combinations like -> would not be substituted by arrow glyphs #161
  - Fixes an issue with rightArrow of bolder weights in italic #154
  - Adjusts the glyph width of "bullet" to be exactly two "space" glyphs wide,
allowing easy ad-hoc list creation with wrapping lines
  - Improved kerning for a.1 (alternate single-storey "a")

v3.5

# pkgload 1.2.1

* `unload()` no longer unregisters methods for generics of the package being unloaded. This way dangling references to generics defined in the stale namespace still work as expected (r-lib/vctrs#1341).
* `load_all()` will now work for packages that have testthat tests but do not have testthat installed (#151)
* The `pkgbuild` dependency has been moved to `Suggests`, as it is only needed for packages with compiled code.

* `load_all()` will now work for packages that have testthat tests but do not have testthat installed (#151)

* `load_all(warn_conflicts = TRUE)` becomes more narrow and only warns when a *function* in the global environment masks a *function* in the package, consistent with the docs (#125, #143 @jennybc).

* `load_all()` no longer does a comprehensive check on the `DESCRIPTION` file when loading, instead just checking that it exists and starts with Package (#149, @malcolmbarrett)

* `unload()` no longer warns when it can't unload a namespace.

# pkgload 1.2.0

* Fix test failure in R 4.1 with regards to S4 method registration

* `load_all()` now preserves existing namespaces in working order. In
particular, it doesn't unload the package's shared library and keeps
it loaded instead. When reloading, a copy of the SO for the new
namespace is loaded from a temporary location. These temporary SOs
are only unloaded on GC and deleted from their temporary location
via a weak reference attached to the namespace.

This mechanism ensures that lingering references to the namespace
keep working as expected. Consequently the namespace
propagation routine that was added to pkgload as a workaround has
  been removed.

Note that `.Call()` invocations that pass a string symbol rather
than a structured symbol may keep crashing, because R will look into
the most recently loaded SO of a given name. Since symbol
registration is now the norm, we don't expect this to cause much
  trouble.

* `load_all()` no longer forces all bindings of a namespace to avoid
lazy-load errors. Instead, it removes exported S3 methods from the
  relevant tables.

  - This improves the loading behaviour with packages that define
objects in their namespaces lazily (e.g. with `delayedAssign()`).

  - This also makes `load_all()` more predictable after a method has
been removed from the package. It is now actually removed from the
generic table. It would previously linger until R was restarted.

* If `load_all()` attaches testthat, it automatically suppresses conflicts.

## later 1.2.0

* Closed #138: later is now licensed as MIT. (#139)

* Closed #140: Previously, the event loop stopped running if the R
  process was forked. (#141)

* Closed #143: Packages which link to later no longer need to take a
direct dependency on Rcpp, because `later.h` no longer includes
  `Rcpp.h`. (#144)

* Removed dependency on the BH package. C++11 is now required. (#147)

## later 1.1.0.1

* Private event loops are now automatically run by their parent. That
is, whenever an event loop is run, its children event loops are
automatically run. The `create_loop()` function has a new parameter
`parent`, which defaults to the current loop. The auto-running
behavior can be disabled by using `create_loop(parent=NULL)`. (#119)

* Fixed #73, #109: Previously, later did not build on some platforms,
notably ARM, because the `-latomic` linker was needed on those
platforms. A configure script now detects when `-latomic` is
  needed. (#114)

* Previously, `execLaterNative` was initialized when the package was
loaded, but not `execLaterNative2`, resulting in a warning message
  in some cases. (#116)

# cpp11 0.2.7

* Fix a transient memory leak for functions that return values from
  `cpp11::unwind_protect()` and `cpp11::safe` (#154)

# cpp11 0.2.6

* `cpp_register()` now uses symbols exclusively in the `.Call()`
interface. This allows it to be more robust in interactive use with
  the pkgload package.

# cpp11 0.2.5

* `cpp_source()` gains a `cxx_std` argument to control which C++
standard is used. This allows you to use code from `C++14` and
  later standards with cpp_source(). (#100)

* The cpp11 knitr engine now allows you to set the `cxx_std` chunk
option to control the C++ standard used.

* `cpp_source()` now has much more informative error messages when
  compilation fails (#125, #139)

* `cpp_source()` now uses a unique name for the DLL, so works when run
multiple times on the same source file on Windows (#143)

* `writable::list_of<T>` now supports modification of vectors as
  intended (#131).

* Errors when running
  `tools::package_native_routine_registration_skeleton()` are no
  longer swallowed (#134)

* `cpp_source()` can now accept a source file called `cpp11.cpp`
  (#133)

* `named_arg` now explicitly protect their values, avoiding protection
  issues when using large
  inputs. [tidyverse/readr#1145](tidyverse/readr#1145)

* `r_string(std::string)` now uses `Rf_mkCharLenCE()` instead of
`Rf_mkChar()`, which avoids the performance cost of checking the
  string length.

* Writable vector classes now properly set their lengths as intended
when being copied to a read only class (#128).

* Tolerance is also taken into account when displaying differences (#173).

* `NA_real_` and `NaN` are only treated as non-equal when tolerance is
  non-null. That means that `testthat::expect_equal(NaN, NA_real_)` will
  pass but `testthat::expect_identical(NaN, NA_real_)` will fail (#174).

# waldo 0.5.0

* You can opt-out of quoting strings with `quote_strings = FALSE` (#145).

* Improvements to missing value handling:

  * `NA_character_` and `"NA"` are no longer treated as equal (#162).

  * `NA_real_` and `NaN` are no longer treated as equal (@sorhawell, #150).

  * Leading and trailing `NA`s are no longer omitted from output when the
lengths of `x` and `y` are unequal (#109).

* The `balanced` attribute used by some `POSIXlt` objects in R 4.3 and greater
  is now ignored (#160).

* 3d (and greater) numeric arrays no longer cause an error (#148).

* Support for complex numbers is improved (#146).

* `ignore_attr = "class"` now works for more types of input (#143).

[1.0.0] - 2023-11-07

A quick note to any packages. The generated shell completions and man page are
now in the gen directory of the repo. They're also included in the pre-built
release artifacts on the releases page.

Improvements
#115 Do not replace symlink with output file (@SimplyDanny)
Fixes an issue where a symlink would be replaced with a regular file
 #124 Fix tests (@Linus789)
Removed displaying the file path when passing the --preview flag and fixed how text coloring was handled in tests

Breaking
 #192 Rename --string-mode to --fixed-strings (@CosmicHorrorDev)
Renamed -s --string-mode to -f --fixed-strings to better match similar
      tools
-s and --string-mode will still continue to work for backwards
compatibility, but are no longer documented
#258 Error on $<num><non_num> capture replacement names (@CosmicHorrorDev)
Previously when you tried to use a numbered capture group right before
some letters in the replacement text (e.g. $1foo) then it would be
considered the impossible-to-use 1foo capture. The correct way to pass
the numbered capture group in this case would be to surround the number
with curly braces like so ${1}foo. The error just detects this case and
informs the user of the issue

Docs
#93 Add note about in-place file modification to --help output (@jchook)
#148 Doc: nitpick -- has no special meaning to shells (@hexagonrecursion)
#181 Fix man page -f flag help text (@ulope)
Fixed copy-pasted text in the man page's -f flag's help text
#186 Improve error message for failed replacements (@CosmicHorrorDev)

Improved the formatting of the benchmarks
 #207 Documenting $ escape (@yahkbar)

      replacement text
 #227 Improve README readability (@vassudanagunta)
      Various formatting improvements
#231 Use clap_mangen and roff to generate manpage (@nc7s)
This change ensures the man page contents stay in sync with the CLI
automatically, and fixes some broken rendering of the existing manpage
#243 Exclude unsupported packages from the repology badge (@CosmicHorrorDev)

Pre-built Releases
 (11295fb) Add ARM target (@chmln)
Added the arm-unknown-linux-gnueabihf target to CI and releases

 #179 Build Adjustments (@yahkbar)
striped release binaries and added the aarch64-ubuntu-linux-musl target
 #204 Adding armv7-unknown-linux-gnueabihf target (@yahkbar)
Added the armv7-unknown-linux-gnueabihf target to the list of targets to
build in CI and for each release
 #205 Resolving broken aarch64-apple-darwin tests (@yahkbar)
Switched aarch64-apple-darwin to only try building the executable without
running the tests since there seems to be no easy way to test for ARM
      Apple targets
#206 Adding Windows builds back (@yahkbar)
Added the x86_64-pc-windows-gnu and x86_64-windows-musl targets back to
