This is an older release. The current version is always at releases/latest.
Outputs
- New: prompter output with large scrolling text, a fixed reading line,
pace in lines per minute and mirroring for teleprompter glass.
Assign its display and arm or disarm it with the show. - With no separate script, the prompter reads live-cue notes, matching the
presenter view. A supplied script supports talks without slides. - The active line uses full brightness; other lines are dimmed.
Reading markers are wedges in the margins, outside the words.
The final line stops on the marker instead of scrolling off screen. - Controls are available in Settings for the prompter output.
Remote protocol
- New:
PROMPTER RUN,STOP,TOP,SPEED,SCROLL,SIZE,
LINE,MIRRORandSCRIPT.SCROLLjogs by whole lines.
Playback
- New: in-process hardware decode on Linux through VAAPI and on macOS
through VideoToolbox, alongside Windows D3D11VA. Machines without a
supported hardware device fall back to software. - Frame copying is still avoided only on Windows in this version, where
the decoder shares the output renderer's device. --decode-benchreports the decoder actually used.--no-hw-decode
orDECKBOY_NO_HW_DECODE=1forces software for comparison using the
same binary and footage.- On a 2015 Intel iGPU, VAAPI used about 10% less CPU for 1080p H.264;
hardware decode was slower than software at 4K on the same chip.
Results depend on the machine.
Interface
- Fixed an issue where the cue inspector displayed
loading preview...
indefinitely for patterns, timers and tones with no still to load.
The message now appears only during an active load.
Documentation
- Added screenshots of the desk using built-in patterns and of presenter
view. Presenter view is listed as an available feature instead of a
roadmap item. - Reconciled contradictory statements about signing in the README and
roadmap.

Every build carries what it needs — the binary, ffmpeg and its runtime libraries. Nothing else to install.
First run
Deckboy is free software and is not code-signed, so the OS does not recognise the publisher. One time only:
- macOS — if it says the app is damaged:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Deckboy.app - Windows — SmartScreen may appear: More info → Run anyway
Full history: CHANGES.md
Deckboy is free, open-source cue-based media playback and show control for live video — clips, slides and live sources on one cue list, out to a screen, SRT or Blackmagic SDI, with a stream and a recording running at the same time and presenter view on its own display, driven from a Stream Deck, Bitfocus Companion, OSC, MIDI or LTC timecode.
