Deckboy v0.99.423 — colour pickers that grab from any window; a tour that fits your screens; step 6 fixed
LatestThis is an older release. The current version is always at releases/latest.
Colour pickers for the effects
- Every effect row that takes a colour now has a colour chip: colour's tint colour, colour replace's from and to, strobe's flash and the edges line. Click it to open a picker beside the inspector.
- PICK FROM SCREEN takes a colour from anywhere on any screen: another app's window, a web page, a logo, or one of Deckboy's own outputs. A magnifier follows the pointer. Click to take a colour, Enter takes the pixel under the pointer, the arrow keys move one pixel, and Esc cancels. On a Mac it is the system's own magnifier (macOS 10.15 and later); on Linux it reads X11 directly, or uses the desktop's picker on Wayland.
- Type a colour as a hex, as R G B, as hue degrees, or by name: the 148 CSS colour names and 214 RAL Classic colours (RAL 3020, 3020 or traffic red).
- Your own colour tables (a brand palette, or Pantone if you hold its values) go in Deckboy's colours folder as CSV, one name and hex a line. The picker names the folder on your machine. Deckboy ships no Pantone values.
- Strobe flashes to any colour and edges draw in any colour. Shows saved before this flash and draw white, exactly as they did.
- Colour and colour replace take the hue of what you pick, so the picture keeps its own shading. A grey has no hue, and the picker says so rather than guessing.
FX COLOUR <n> #rrggbbsets an effect's colour over the network;FX COLOUR <n> <A-D> #rrggbbsets a hue from a colour.FX GETreports the colour.
LEARN THE BASICS fits your screens
- With two or more screens, the practice show's picture goes on a screen the desk is not on, and Dr. Pixel names it. It used to open on the desk's own screen and say "One screen, so the output took all of it".
- With mirrored screens, step 1 says how to set them to extend on your system (Win+P on Windows).
- Plug a screen in during the tour and the picture moves onto it. Pull one out or mirror them and Dr. Pixel says so; if the picture lands on the desk's screen at any step, a key or a click gives the desk back, and he says why.
Fixed
- LEARN THE BASICS no longer sticks on step 6, CROSSFADE TO IT, when the cues are videos: the second clip played, and the tour still asked for TAKE, with SHOW ME no help.
- A tour resumed at step 6 now says to make a cue live first, and only a crossfade to a different cue passes it. Taking the same cue twice used to count, and the first TAKE after resuming was ignored without a word.
Companion module 1.0.8 (and 1.0.7)
- 1.0.8: a new "Effect colour" action, with Companion's own colour picker. It sets what a strobe flashes to or the edges line, or the colour Colour tints toward or Colour Replace changes from or to. Needs this Deckboy.
- Seek with an empty Seconds field sends nothing. It used to send a bare SEEK, which Deckboy refused.
- "Cue is live" and "Cue is selected" now stay off when the Cue field is blank. Before, a blank field matched any playlist with nothing live, so the button lit.
- Dropdowns no longer turn into expression fields by themselves.
- Buttons are re-checked only when something they show changes. While a cue plays, only the time-remaining warning is re-checked.

First run
Deckboy is free software and is not code-signed, so the OS does not recognise the publisher. One time only:
- macOS — if it says the app is damaged:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Deckboy.app - Windows — SmartScreen may appear: More info → Run anyway
Deckboy is free, open-source cue-based media playback and show control for live video — clips, slides and live sources on one cue list, out to a screen, NDI, SRT or Blackmagic SDI, with a stream and a recording running at the same time and presenter view on its own display, driven from a Stream Deck, Bitfocus Companion, OSC, MIDI or LTC timecode.
