dsh-carbon 0.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@ValenscoA ValenscoA released this 28 Oct 09:22

The panel now says when its own history is young: a window that is mostly older than the store shows "History covers 1 of 30 periods" instead of a row of empty stripes that reads like a broken chart.

Install instructions now name the profile trap: --profile silently creates a second, empty profile if the name is mistyped, so check ls ~/.dsh/profiles first. Adds the sidebar screenshot that shows where the page lives.

Same package as 0.3.0 otherwise.

dsh-carbon 0.3.0

@ValenscoA ValenscoA released this 28 Oct 09:02

First public release.

Install without npm — the tarball below is the package:

cd ~/.dsh/profiles/desktop
pnpm add https://github.com/ValenscoA/dsh-carbon/releases/download/v0.3.0/dsh-carbon-0.3.0.tgz

Add "dsh-carbon" to dsh.profile.bundles in that profile's package.json, restart the app once, and Carbon appears in the sidebar.

For the CLI alone, clone the repo and run node bin/dsh-carbon.mjs report (Node 22.15+).

What it does

  • Estimates the carbon footprint of your DeepSeek Harness sessions from token counts, with every factor sourced, tiered measured/derived/extrapolated, and shown with its low-high band — never as one confident number.
  • Keeps a durable store at ~/.dsh/carbon/history.jsonl (tokens, not grams) so a pruned transcript keeps its footprint and a corrected factor reprices the whole history.
  • Windows of 7/30/90 days, 12 months or all time, with a delta against the previous period.
  • Stripes: one column per day, week or month, coloured against the median period.
  • A token/CO2 split that shows the shape of a session: cache reads are 98% of tokens and ~8% of the footprint, output is 0.5% of tokens and ~90% of it.
  • A 1200x630 card, a shields badge, and a repository footprint comment for a pull request.
  • A pixel whale whose colour and swim speed are the reading.

Two things worth knowing before you rely on it

The V4.1-Flash and V4-Pro factors are not measurements. The only public per-query energy data for DeepSeek covers V3 and R1; everything newer is derived by active-parameter ratio and is an order of magnitude. The band is where that uncertainty lives.

The store only reaches back to its first sync. Sessions the harness pruned before you installed are not recoverable.

65 tests, including the invariant that the buckets and the four kinds of token each sum to the window total on every fleet.
