Release list
Venture 0.1.3
Venture 0.1.3
Fixed
- Batman: Arkham Shadow stutters much less when loading new areas. The longest pauses are about half as long, and the total time spent stalled during a load is down by about two thirds.
- Hellsweeper VR showed a black screen on GPUs with 8 GB or less: its textures ran the GPU out of memory. On GPUs without native support for the game's texture format, textures are now stored compressed (converted once and cached) and use a fraction of the memory.
- Epic Roller Coasters stopped at launch on the Oculus runtime with an AMD GPU.
- Dreadhalls stopped at launch on a missing ARM32 function.
- The Climb stopped at launch on a missing Android function.
- Stremio couldn't be installed: the conversion of its Java stopped on classes the game ships for Blu-ray playback.
- Bogo's avatar loader stopped on a missing Android function.

Venture 0.1.2.3
Venture 0.1.2.3
Fixed
- Resident Evil 4 froze when loading some areas. The game decompresses data on a stack it creates itself, and Venture stopped the game thread when a call was made on that stack.
- Supernatural (both versions) stayed on a black screen. The game's crash reporter needed an Android function Venture didn't have, and the game's startup stopped when it failed.
- Pickleball One stopped at launch on a missing Android function (a Google Play services lookup).
- Prey VR stopped at launch. It requires the passthrough extension, which Venture now offers; passthrough itself is reported as unavailable.
- Hellsweeper VR stopped at launch because the game ships a desktop library among its Android ones. Venture now keeps such a library and continues, as Android does.
Other changes
- Dropdown labels in the launcher are centered.
- When a game's Java can't be converted, the debug report now says why.
If a game crashes or freezes on this version, please send a new debug report: after a crash, use Report issue on the game's page; after a freeze, use Settings > Upload debug report.
Everything from 0.1.2.2 is included.

Venture 0.1.2.2
Fixed
- Pickleball One stopped at launch after the 0.1.2.1 fix (Firebase needed Android's StrictMode policies).
- Syberia VR: videos did not play. Games that decode video into an image reader (AImageReader) now get the frames.
- Dread Halls stopped at launch (a missing Android permission lookup).
- Importing saves from a headset no longer fails when the headset refuses to send one file (seen with Asgard's Wrath 2). That file is skipped and noted in the log, and the rest of the saves are imported.
Better crash and freeze reports
- If one of a game's threads stops on a Venture error, the game now closes and the debug report names the error and where the game was. Before, the thread just disappeared and the game froze with nothing in the log (seen in Resident Evil 4).
- The freeze recorder now captures every freeze in a session (up to four), not only the first.
- Debug reports now log GPU memory use against the driver's budget, including at each freeze.
If a game crashes or freezes on this version, please send a new debug report: after a crash, use Report issue on the game's page; after a freeze, use Settings > Upload debug report. The extra detail is what we need to fix it.

Venture 0.1.2.1
Fixed
- Pickleball One and other games using Firebase stopped at launch on Windows. Android allows characters in file names that Windows does not (such as
:); Venture now stores those names in a Windows-safe form and shows them to the game as written.
Everything from 0.1.2 is included.

Venture 0.1.2
Fixed
- The Climb stopped at launch.
- IMMERROCK stopped at launch.
- TRIANGLE STRATEGY stopped at start.
- A Fisherman's Tale, A Fisherman's Tale 2, Ghostbusters, Maestro, Journey to Foundation and other games that bundle Google Play Services stopped at "APK conversion/verification failed". Code the game never uses no longer blocks it.
- PreyVR and other games using curved (cylinder) panels stopped at launch on SteamVR. On runtimes without curved panels, Venture now draws them curved itself.
- Gorilla Royale closed when joining a room (its voice chat).
- Linux: audio threads keep their raised priority instead of asking the desktop again on every sound start. The desktop's limits could leave later audio at normal priority, a likely cause of crackling and wavering cutscene audio (Resident Evil 4 on Monado).
- Split Second crashed at start on SteamVR with AMD GPUs.
- Assassin's Creed Nexus and other space-warp games had their depth refused on Virtual Desktop with AMD GPUs.
- Importing from the headset no longer fails "right at the end" on a save or cache file the headset changes or can't read (Resident Evil 4, Asgard's Wrath 2). That file is skipped and named in the log.
- Library: "Meta could not list your games right now (HTTP 500)" on large libraries. When Meta keeps failing the full list, Venture now lists your library the way a Quest does, a page at a time.
- Pickleball One stopped at start.
- Call of the Sea VR stopped at launch.
- Steam Frame: holding both sticks did not open the game menu unless "Menu from both stick clicks" was set to Always. Automatic now turns it on in every game that does not use stick clicks itself (the game menu is also on the left View button).
- Batman: Arkham Shadow stopped at its in-game videos (the endgame dream sequences). Games that play video through ExoPlayer, Android's common video player, now play it.
- Space Pirate Trainer DX: voice chat and fragment fixes (community contribution).
- CitraVR gets further at start: its database, background work, notifications and graphics driver loader now start. Its menus use Android's full 2D interface, which Venture does not have yet, so it does not reach a game.
New
- Downloads at once (Settings > Library): download up to four games side by side on a fast connection. Off by default (one at a time).
- Save data on the Import page: bring a game's saves from a Quest or a folder.
- Search in the headset import list when it is long.
- Clearer description of the Menu from both stick clicks setting.
- Saves and mods on the game page: import save data, and open the game's mods folder: a file there with the same name as one of the game's expansion files (OBB) replaces it at launch, without touching the installation. This is how Quest OBB mods such as RE4 VR Definitive Edition are installed.
- Games no longer leave old converted Java code and caches of earlier versions behind; uninstalling also removes the game's cache.
Debug reports
- A game that freezes (no new frame for 5 s while in focus) now records where every game thread is. If a game freezes for you, please send a debug report after it happens.
- A failed headset import says which file failed and why.
- The Simpsons: Hit & Run VR: the log now shows why its graphics context is refused.
- Linux: a Meta sign-in window that stops unexpectedly is reported as an error with its cause, not as "Sign-in cancelled".
Install
Windows 10/11: download Venture-windows64-setup.exe and run it.

Venture 0.1.1.1
Fixed
- Transparent edges of icons and cutouts showed as boxes with compressed textures (the 0.1.1 default), such as Batman: Arkham Shadow's combat icons. Compressed textures now keep fully transparent and fully opaque areas exact.
- Creed: Rise to Glory and other Unreal games said "No OBB found" when the games folder is on a different drive than Venture's data.
- Lambda1VR and Quake3Quest stopped right at launch.
- Asgard's Wrath 2 stuck at its first screen in languages other than English: games now download their language packs (Korean, Chinese, Japanese, ...) when they ask for them.
- "Games will appear in Steam after it restarts" no longer shows at every start when Steam already lists them.
- Add a game by store link (Library, under the sort menu) now also appears when Meta doesn't confirm your whole library.
Debug reports
- When a game stops inside Venture, the report now names the game code that made the failing call, and includes the previous run's Java errors. This helps with The Climb, which still stops at launch for some players: please send a new debug report from 0.1.1.1.

Venture 0.1.1
Fixes from your reports since 0.1.0.3, lower GPU memory use, and a few launcher additions.
New
- Update in place. Update installs the new release for you (Windows installer, AppImage), checked against the release's SHA256SUMS.
- Import save data in an installed game's menu: from a Quest over USB (developer mode) or from a copy of its Android/data folder. It overwrites the game's current saves in Venture after keeping them in a backup.
- Add a game you own by its store link when Meta cannot list your library, and installs and updates now check ownership one game at a time, so very large libraries work.
- Quit game button on a running game's page; the game saves and closes as on a Quest.
- Menu from both stick clicks (Settings > Runtime) for controllers whose menu button the PC runtime keeps for itself, such as Valve Index.
- Interface size (Settings > Appearance), with larger small text by default.
- Choose the drive a new game installs or imports to when you have libraries on several drives, in the same dialog as Add to Steam; Show game data opens a game's Android/data folder (for homebrew ports).
Fixed
- Meta sign-in failing with "HTTP 500" on accounts with many games. Sign-in no longer needs the library list; a library Meta cannot list is retried and explained, with Refresh library.
- "Unable to verify license" (Ghost Town and others) when Meta's library query fails.
- "locale not supported" when importing or connecting a headset with non-English letters in a folder on PATH.
- Black screen in Vampire: The Masquerade - Justice with SteamVR on AMD GPUs.
- Assassin's Creed Nexus freezing on SteamVR (Linux) when the game shows many panels.
- Games installed on a drive other than the system drive no longer copy their data files (several GB) into AppData at launch, which filled the system drive and stopped the game with "Could not save local file". Copies left there by 0.1.0 are removed.
- Batman: Arkham Shadow stuck at Begin New Game on imported copies. An import now also refuses a game file that was cut short before it reached the PC, and names it.
- Resident Evil 4 fades, Asgard's Wrath 2 at high resolution, Creed: Rise to Glory, Pinball FX, PILO on the Oculus runtime, IMMERROCK, Unreal movie playback (Galaxy's Edge intro), Puzzling Places downloads, homebrew ports such as Galaxy Quest.
- Linux: a closed KWallet now asks for its password at start instead of Venture showing you signed out; Meta sign-in popups and security checks, Flatpak sign-in and folder opening, NVIDIA without headless surfaces, OVRPlugin/Unreal titles.
- ACE stopping at launch ("Java application launch failed").
- The Climb stopping at launch, and The Climb 2 closing when its tutorial loads.
- Batman: Arkham Shadow language downloads (Options > Audio) not starting.
- Asgard's Wrath 2 stuck at its first screen in languages other than English: games now download their language packs (Korean, Chinese, Japanese, ...) when they ask for them.
- When SteamVR fails to start a game's session, Venture now says to restart SteamVR instead of showing an error code.
- A game that closes because it needs a Meta account now says so and how to sign in.
- An import that keeps the saves already on this PC now says so.
- Custom artwork you set in Steam for a Venture game is kept; adding another game no longer puts Venture's artwork back.
- "Games will appear in Steam after it restarts" no longer shows at every start when Steam already lists them.
Performance and memory
- Less GPU memory for every game that ships compressed textures (Batman: Arkham Shadow about 0.3 GiB less).
- Game textures are now stored compressed (BC7, a quarter of the size) by default, so games that filled 8-12 GB GPUs (Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries, Batman: Arkham Shadow, Asgard's Wrath 2) fit. Compress textures in Settings > Runtime: Always (default), Automatic (only once a chosen share of GPU memory is in use, 50% by default) or Off.
Debug reports
One-click reports now include headset, eye field of view, audio device, display rate, the game's asset files and the Android classes it needs, plus where a crash happened (the driver or layer it was in), the Java errors a game ran into, and how GPU memory grew while playing.

Venture 0.1.0.3
What's new
- Meta sign-in with Facebook (Windows): signing in through Facebook finishes again. Facebook's login and its automatic security check now open in a proper popup window that closes itself when done; before, the sign-in window went blank and nothing happened.
- Meta sign-in (Windows): security checks and captchas embedded in Meta's sign-in pages load instead of staying blank, and the pages' own confirmation dialogs appear.

Venture 0.1.0.2
Venture 0.1.0.2
What's new
- Unreal Engine 5 games (Downshot VR and others) start instead of stopping with "Java application launch failed".
- Games using Firebase (DigiGods and others) start instead of stopping with "Java application launch failed".
- Oculus/Meta Link runtime: games show a picture again; before, you heard sound but saw nothing.
- Steam: games are added to Steam again on current Steam clients.
- Resident Evil 4 and other VrApi games: hands line up with your controllers again (they pointed about 60 degrees off).
- Assassin's Creed Nexus and other games: loading and calibration screens are no longer upside down.
- Graphics cards with less VRAM: when video memory is full, games use system memory instead of crashing.
- Linux (Wayland, HiDPI): the launcher is no longer drawn at half size with clicks landing in the wrong place, and its window fits the screen.
- Launcher: the signed-out library page is simpler.
- If your headset runtime sends invalid tracking data, Venture now gives games safe values and notes it once in the log.
