HMG-API 1.0.0-beta.5
Fifth beta of HMG-API, the mod manager for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis Gen5W navigation head units. It's for owners who are happy to test and report back.
What's new
- Open HMG-API from NEMESIS Manager. My Packages → HMG-API → Launch opens the HMG-API app, and installs it first if it's missing. On a car without a hook map yet (every car but the US EV6 today), HMG-API's tile and ★ choice don't appear, so this is the way into the app and its Car Report. Over adb:
adb shell hmgapid sh 'sh /data/hmgapi/open.sh'. - If the app doesn't install, a message says so and the next restart tries again (before, only the install log said it).
What's fixed
- Hook maps lost when unzipping (beta 3 and earlier). The USB, adb and update downloads had a file
MAPSnext to a foldermaps. On a FAT/exFAT stick, Windows or macOS those are the same name, so unzipping there lost one of them, and HMG-API installed with its hooks off or stopped on its file check. Fixed: the file is nowMAPS.md5, and the installer stops with a clear message if the maps are missing. If you installed beta 3 or earlier and the app says "no hook map" on a car that should have one (the US EV6), install beta 4 over it. - NEMESIS's newer package format (descriptor 1.1, as its Package Store takes it): the package now says its own version as
package-version(0.99.5 for this beta; NEMESIS only takes dotted numbers), with a short description and the car it's tested on. Other cars show as "partial" in NEMESIS, not incompatible. - Safer install and uninstall: a download missing its hook maps is refused before anything changes; uninstalling through NEMESIS can no longer be skipped by a leftover from an interrupted install; uninstalling works even if HMG-API's background service had stopped.
- The NEMESIS download installs (since beta 3).
hmgapi-1.0.0-beta.5-nemesis.zipis laid out like NEMESIS's own packages: unzip it onto the top level of a USB stick and plug it in. Before beta 3 it was the bare package, which NEMESIS reports as invalid on a stick. (The USB download's NEMESIS route always worked.) - Removing an old NEMESIS wireless package after installing HMG-API no longer stops HMG-API with "changed outside HMG-API". Uninstall the package in NEMESIS Manager, restart, and tap Apply changes: HMG-API builds the mod's changes on the stock files NEMESIS put back, and the mod's hooks turn on at the next restart. (Doing it the other way round, package first, still works best.)
- A file a mod adds that an old package already added (Leafia's audio library, for example) now names the package to uninstall first, instead of a general "not the stock file" message.
- Network rules: HMG-API's rules no longer swap places every 10 seconds with another tool's rules that only allow traffic.

SHA256SUMS |
Checksums. |
No download installs a mod by itself: you pick them in the app (or over adb). Step-by-step instructions: Installing HMG-API. Uninstalling puts every file back exactly as it was.
Tested
- Off the car: every test, including HMG-API over a NEMESIS package and that package removed afterwards, both NEMESIS downloads checked the way NEMESIS reads a USB stick, and every download checked for names a FAT stick, Windows or macOS would merge or refuse.
- Not yet on a car: this beta's, beta 4's and beta 3's changes, and beta 2's network rules and Car Report network section. Beta 1's on-car testing (a 2023 Kia EV6, US, 260507) covers the rest.
Known issues
- When one mod's change can't be made, nothing changes for any mod until it's sorted (the plan says which mod and why; turning that mod off lets the others apply).
- The head unit has to restart after installing, and after turning a mod with code on or off. The app says when.
- A USB stick left in the port can start wired Android Auto and stop wireless from connecting. Take the stick out after installing.
Reporting
Open an issue and attach a Car Report. Please don't post your VIN, serial numbers or phone numbers; nothing needs them.
HMG-API 1.0.0-beta.4
Fourth beta of HMG-API, the mod manager for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis Gen5W navigation head units. It's for owners who are happy to test and report back.

package-version(0.99.4 for this beta; NEMESIS only takes dotted numbers), with a short description and the car it's tested on.
