From #1039:

on single posts, if using the single column post template, a thin sidebar can optionally appear to the left of the main post content. It's too narrow and interferes with the social sharing tools, to resolve this, we should:

  • move to the right
  • make it wider (pushing into the content)
  • check against child themes
