FX Studio v0.1.0 — Local sound effects for macOS and Windows

Choose a tag to compare

@WikPlus WikPlus released this 11 Oct 18:38

FX Studio's first open-source preview: create local sound effects with Stable Audio 3 Medium, organize projects, audition takes, trim with quick fades and export or drag the saved crop.

Local agents can use the installable English skill, standard MCP (20 tools), CLI and authenticated loopback API. Enable access and install the skill in Setup.

Download the compiled app

  • Mac / Apple Silicon, macOS 26.2+: FXStudio-macOS-arm64.zip. Unzip and move FX Studio.app to Applications.
  • Windows 10/11 x64: FXStudio-Windows-x64-Setup.exe, or extract the whole FXStudio-Windows-x64.zip folder for portable use. An x64 CPU with AVX2/FMA/F16C and the latest Microsoft Visual C++ v14 x64 runtime are required. The installer links to Microsoft's runtime download when it is missing.
  • GitHub's source ZIP contains code; use the named release assets for the built application.

No Node.js, separate Python or compiler is needed to run either package. These preview packages are unsigned; the Mac package is not notarized. Installation guidance is in the README.

First launch and local agents

Only Medium is used. It downloads automatically on first launch: 6.41 GiB on Mac / MLX, about 2.99 GiB on Windows / LiteRT CPU. Setup shows progress, pause/resume, retry and disk-space errors. Generation is offline after setup. Windows uses quantized weights and has different performance/output from MLX.

In Setup → Local agents, enable access, choose an export folder, then install the skill or copy the MCP configuration for your local client. Agent-created assets appear in the app's projects and history. The skill includes project creation, concrete prompts, generation/polling, trimming and export workflows.

Validation

Mac: 61 automated behavior tests; real standalone one-second Medium generation at 44.1 kHz stereo; MP3 round-trip; native project browsing, saved trim and waveform zoom. Tested on an M1 Pro with 16 GB unified memory.

Windows: native CI validation includes behavior tests, bundled service/MCP/CLI/project workflows, trim/export/MP3, ZIP and license audits, actual silent installation/uninstallation, and real Medium generation. 62 behavior tests passed. The real one-second 44.1 kHz stereo Medium clip took 38.41 seconds on the CI runner. Download FXStudio-Windows-acceptance.zip for the original printed native reports and build provenance, or inspect the successful run. Windows desktop playback and dragging into a particular editor still need hands-on testing; CI verifies the exported crop/file, not those native GUI interactions.

App source and agent skill: MIT. Model weights: separate Stability AI/Gemma terms. Bundled dependencies retain their own licenses; complete notices and corresponding native audio-library sources are included offline. No weights, user data, paid tier or cloud agent service are bundled. SHA-256 files accompany downloads.
