Prism 1.7.0

Prism 1.7 is the biggest update yet: a complete redesign, and a set of features that run on your phone. There's still no Prism server, no required account and no telemetry.

Highlights

• A new look, "Aura × Spectrum". Colour from what's playing under frosted glass, Prism's split light on what's playing, progress and the Play ring, new icons and app icons, and lyrics that thicken word by word as they're sung. Seven bundled fonts, and a calmer White light style.
• Sing. Takes the singer's voice out of the playing song on your phone (a one-time ~50 MB download). Keep a little of the lead or none, and shift the key.
• DJ mode. Orders the queue by key and tempo so each song blends into the next, beat-matched. Steady, Build up or Wind down. Also in Android Auto ("Play as a DJ set").
• Made for you. Daily Mixes, a time-of-day mix, Release Radar ("New from your artists"), Smart Shuffle, On repeat, Forgotten favourites, Quick picks around your artists, and an autoplay radio built from your own listening.
• Blend. One QR code, and you and a friend get the same shared playlist, on both phones at once on the same Wi-Fi.
• Song Recognition. From Search, a Quick Settings tile or the new Recognize widget. Only an audio fingerprint leaves the phone.
• Prism Connect. Cast to Chromecast, Google TV and DLNA/UPnP speakers and TVs (no Google SDK), control Prism from a browser, and hand playback off to another device.
• Rewind for every year you've listened, and a Replay card at the top of Home in nine styles.
• Best part (jump to it, or set your own), romanized lyrics, headphone correction for ~9,000 models (AutoEq), tablet, foldable and landscape layouts, a redrawn Immersive mode.
• Yours without an account. A local Prism Account, Prism playlists and saved albums, and a Home that works offline.
• Podcasts search and a podcast player (15/30 s skips, speed). Discord status now shows the album cover.

Smaller changes and fixes

• Songs start much faster (about 0.7 s instead of 2.5 s on Wi-Fi in testing), whole songs are buffered, and Opus is preferred over AAC.
• Bluetooth earbuds (AirPods especially) no longer make the music stutter. New Playback diagnostics if anything still does.
• Music videos only come from the artist's own channel, VEVO or label. Genres are far more accurate (66 of 68 in testing, up from 54).
• From GitHub issues: double-tap the cover to seek (#79), tap the time for the song's length (#82), pull the mini player down to stop (#59), a played history in the queue (#68), search in Settings (#73), Songs, not videos → Everywhere (#80), lyrics under another title (#63), background vocals and overlapping lines (#65, #66), linkless artists open (#78), Downloads newest first (#77), plus fixes for #87, #86, #69, #67, #58 and #72.
• From Reddit: Local files no longer spins forever, lyrics load faster, sort orders are kept, and downloaded albums and playlists show in Downloads.
• Plus a long list of polish and fixes. Everything is in the full changelog.

Install or update

Download Prism.apk above on your phone (Android 8.0+) and open it, or tap the update banner in Prism. It installs over 1.6.x and keeps your downloads, Replay history and settings.

Warning

Android Auto features, including car lyrics, are for passengers and for use while parked only. Do not read lyrics while driving. Keep your eyes on the road and follow local laws.
