The living handout. Notebooks any chat AI can draft, a teacher can trust, and a student can keep: shared files now remember each reader's progress, practice problems draw fresh numbers every attempt, and students can send their results back.

Highlights

  • Shared files remember progress. A shared .html keeps each reader's answers, ticks, practice streaks and notes in their browser. "My results" summarizes progress and graded answers for the teacher.
  • Practice problems (problem slot). Write a problem once with ranges and a formula; every attempt draws new numbers and checks the typed answer.
  • New notebook from AI. Copy a ready-made prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any chat AI, paste the reply back, see exactly what to fix, and review every card as a draft before sharing.
  • Guided card types. Guided Explore (predict → explore → explain), Worked Example and Practice Set.
  • Saves you can trust. Atomic saves, flushed on close and Cmd+Q, plus automatic version history with Restore.
  • Published format. A JSON Schema and docs/FORMAT.md for the notebook file.
  • Also: keyboard-first Study, zoom, the Cyberpunk theme, syntax-highlighted code, and 2,718 automated tests.

Install

Requires an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later), macOS 11 or newer.

  1. Download notebuilder_0.3.0_aarch64.dmg below, open it, and drag NoteBuilder to Applications.
  2. NoteBuilder is not notarized yet, so the first launch takes one extra step:
    • macOS 15 Sequoia or later: open the app, click Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
    • macOS 14 or earlier: right-click the app in Applications and choose Open.
  3. If macOS says the app "is damaged", run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/notebuilder.app and open it again.
