Options

The Options window allows the user to customize the application behavior. There are six options available to the user, divided into three categories:

  1. Startup. Customizes the application's behavior when it starts;
  2. News Sources. Customizes the application's behavior with news sources, no matter their type;
  3. News Download. Customizes the application's behavior with news downloading, no matter their type.

Each category has its own tab in the Options window.

The Startup category is pictured below:

Startup

The options provided by this category are:

  1. Start with Windows. When the checkbox is checked, it means that the application will start with the operating system. When it is unchecked, it will not start with the operating system;
  2. Minimize to Notification Area. When the checkbox is checked, the program will be minimized on the Notification Area. When it is unchecked, it will be minimized on the Task bar;
  3. Application Start Options. This customization offers the user three ways in which he can choose the application to be:
    1. Minimized. The application will start minimized, on the Task bar or on the Notification Tray, according to the customization;
    2. Normal. The application will start having the main window with the same dimensions it had when it was closed the previous time;
    3. Maximized. The application will start maximized.

The News Sources category is pictured below:

News Sources

The options provided in the News Sources category are:

  1. Disable news sources with invalid RSS files. When the program encounters a news source which has an RSS file which cannot be processed for any reason, the program may mark this news source as disabled, and ignore it the next time it downloads the news from the user-entered news sources collection. Side effect: at a later date, the creators of the RSS feed may notice the error and fix it, making the news source valid. However, because the user chose to ignore it, he may never notice that, meanwhile, the ignored news source was fixed;
  2. Download news automatically when the program starts. The program can download the news from the selected news sources in the user-entered news sources collection automatically at startup, if the checkbox is checked. Otherwise, the user must manually download them. The results are seen immediately.

News Download

The News Download category is pictured above and has only one option: to Download news automatically at a set interval. This option allows the program to automatically download the selected news from the user-entered news collection at a set time frame, between one second and 23 hours. Once this option is activated, the user can enter the period of time he chooses to automatically download the news.
