What's new
zn task watch prints a line each time a task's status changes, so your own scripts can react to it, for example by starting an agent when a task becomes ready (ZenNotes/zennotes#941). zn only reports: nothing runs unless your script runs it.
- It covers a task note's
status:, a checkbox task's@status:, and its checkbox. Moving a card on the Kanban board, editing the note in any editor, andzn task toggleall count. Editing a task's words, or saving it with the same status, does not. - With
--json, each change is one line of JSON with the note path, title, task text, and the previous and new status. - A local vault is watched through its files. A ZenNotes server pushes its changes, and one that cannot is asked every
--intervalseconds.
zn task watch --json | while IFS= read -r change; do
if [ "$(jq -r .status <<<"$change")" = ready ]; then
./start-agent.sh "$(jq -r .path <<<"$change")"
fi
donezn task list --json now gives each task's status, and so does list_tasks in zn mcp, so an assistant can see which column of a status board a task is in.
Changelog
- 7657716 Feat(tasks): zn task watch prints each task status change as it happens
- 58b0e56 Fix(tasks): zn task watch keeps a change made while a note is rewritten
