are you an artist? a musician? some other sort of creative? we would LOVE for you to contribute to A Little Game Called Mario!
while many of the information on this wiki are geared toward the more "technical" folks who want to get in and mess with the code, we also want to be mindful that some folks may not be interested in "hooking up" any of the assets they contribute to the game. that's totally fine!
as much as we would love to just open a Google Drive folder and let anyone drop whatever they want into it, that doesn't work very well for our crediting system - and it is CRITICAL that you are properly credited for your work.
so...here is a short, non-technical guide that walks you through submitting an asset "donation" to the project.
Sign up for a GitHub account
Fork the project
you can leave the name and description as their defaults - just hit the green Create Fork
button and you're good!
Open the .asset_donations
folder on your new fork
it should be at the very top of the file list
Open the Add file
menu and click Upload files
Upload your assets
the most important part here is to tick the second option before hitting the green button!
title and description are optional, but feel free to comment with your thoughts on how the asset(s) might be used in-game
Submit!
almost done! just a few sub-steps here:
- click "compare across forks"
- open the first dropdown menu
- select the original repository (owned by "a-little-org-called-mario")
- click the green
Create Pull Request
button
and that's it!! your assets have been submitted for review. give us a little time to merge them into the main project and then they'll be accessible to everyone!
you may not see them pop up in the game right away - someone will need to add the code and junk to make that happen! but you will see your name included in the credits as soon as the next game update goes up.
congrats! and thank you for your work on A Little Game Called Mario
