This console app reads the contents of a text file called file_input.txt
, adds a four-digit index number to the beginning of each line (that formatting can be changed), and then writes the modified lines to the file_output.txt
file.
There is also a module, delete_empty_lines.py
, for deleting blank lines; consider running it before executing the main.py
module, or else the enumeration will break.
- Custom opening/closing brackets for IDs (line 2):
# by default:
id_opening_bracket = "\""
id_closing_bracket = "\""
# to disable this option:
id_opening_bracket = ""
id_closing_bracket = ""
- Custom word separator (line 5):
# by default:
lines_separator = ","
# e.g. for csv files:
lines_separator = ";"
- Index formatting with leading zeros (line 37):
# e.g. 7 digits long:
line[0] = id_opening_bracket + f"{i+1:07}" + id_closing_bracket
# for disabling this feature use:
line[0] = id_opening_bracket + f"{i+1}" + id_closing_bracket
- You can also change the initial ID value (line 37) and step (line 42):
# by default is "0001":
line[0] = id_opening_bracket + f"{i+1:04}" + id_closing_bracket
# e.g. "0099":
line[0] = id_opening_bracket + f"{i+99:04}" + id_closing_bracket
# e.g. "0000":
line[0] = id_opening_bracket + f"{i:04}" + id_closing_bracket
