For the input fields were the 'not_answered' option is currently automatically added the following improvement was requested (originally in issue #8575 ) :

If 'not_answered' options are to be added automatically, it would be a good idea to see the option or added field displayed in the 'Instrument Builder', or better still to give the option (via a checkbox) to "Include a 'Not answered' field/option".

@christinerogers Instruments will routinely differ on whether they require or not a 'Not answered' option for specific fields. Certainly there are instances where the SME does not want to include 'Not Answered' option for specific fields, and ideally the user should be able to select whether to include a 'Not Answered' option directly when creating the field in the Instrument Builder.
