Aerospike agent-skills v1.2.0

@rbotzer rbotzer released this 02 Oct 19:37

The skill now covers Aerospike Database 8.2.0

Brings the skill up to date with Aerospike Database 8.2.0, for the parts that apply to
every client. The rules name no client methods; those still come from each client's own
repository.

New: the 64-level nesting limit. Database 8.2.0 rejects a List or Map nested deeper
than 64 levels in any request. Values already stored deeper stay readable and fail only
when something sends them back: a read-modify-write, an XDR shipment to an 8.2.0
destination, or a restore. A new rule records the limit, the status codes returned, the
upgrade hazards, and alternatives for trees and JSON-derived documents.

Also added or updated

  • Server-side string operations: the 8.2.0 version gate, Unicode codepoint positions,
what NO_FAIL does and does not cover, invalid UTF-8, and ICU regex.
  • Operations versus expressions: an operation changes one named bin in place and an
expression evaluates to a value; read versus write expressions; a modify expression is
    not a write.
  • Error details and node-join timeouts: opt-in error-detail verbosity, branching on
(status, subcode), and that an 8.2.0 node that is joining or restarting accepts the
connection and then answers nothing, so requests to it time out.
  • K-ordered maps are a performance recommendation from 8.2.0, not a correctness
    requirement.
  • Lua UDFs are hardened by default from 8.2.0.
  • integer replaces numeric as the secondary index key type on 8.2.0 and later.
  • Error 22 has subcodes on 8.2.0, none of them the NSUP-off rejection.

The always-loaded SKILL.md grew from 4,871 to 4,990 tokens, still inside the Agent
Skills spec's 5,000-token recommendation. Only one-line instructions and one blacklist
row were added; the detail lives in the rule files.

SKILL.md is now a router

The always-loaded file dropped from ~11,300 to ~4,900 tokens — inside the Agent
Skills spec's 5,000-token recommendation for the first time. It names each rule
and states its instruction in one sentence; the reasoning, worked detail and
documentation links live in a file shipped beside it.

The package is now a directory, not a file. Alongside SKILL.md it carries
37 rule files in references/ and 8 worked examples in examples/. Install the
directory, not the single file, or the rules it names will be missing:

npx skills add https://github.com/aerospike/agent-skills/tree/main/compiled-skills/aerospike

The skill declares its own version

metadata.version is now in the published frontmatter, so an installed copy can
be identified without checking back here. A release whose tag and artifact
version disagree now fails rather than shipping.

Fixed: the compiler was discarding content silently

It kept only the first paragraph of each rule and dropped every table, every
Why and See also section, all prose inside Prefer/Avoid, and the
continuation lines of wrapped bullets. Eighteen of thirty-five rules shipped
truncated; one shipped a single sentence ending in a colon, introducing a table
that had been removed. A coverage check now fails the build on these.

Also fixed: 19 documentation links returning 404 after pages moved under
aerospike.com/docs, each replacement verified live.

Changed

Rule names follow one prefix taxonomy — binop-operate-*/bin-operate-* became
operate-*, singleton-client became client-singleton, official-put-get
became single-put-get, official-batch became batch-official-links. Worked
examples moved to examples/ and are now language-agnostic rather than
Python-only.

No consumer is affected by the renames: v1.0.0 shipped SKILL.md alone, so no
reference path was ever published.

@lyndonbauto lyndonbauto released this 26 Aug 21:37

First release of the Aerospike agent skills.

What is published

One skill: compiled-skills/aerospike/SKILL.md — a single ~45 KB file compiled from the three authoring folders under skills/. Registries list that artifact and nothing else. The folders under skills/ are the editing sources, not separate install targets.

It covers the Aerospike core database across three areas:

  • Getting started — running a local instance with Docker, namespaces, sets and bins, port mappings, TTL and NSUP, and a verified first write and read. Includes a hallucination blacklist of REST endpoints, SQL DDL, and package names that do not exist, plus a mapping from relational and Redis concepts onto Aerospike ones.
  • Development — 31 rules for writing or reviewing client code with the official SDKs (Python, Node.js, Go, Java, C#): collection data types and server-side CDT operations, operate for multi-bin atomicity, filter and operation expressions for compute-to-data, secondary index discipline, batch and scan work, client policy defaults, connection pooling and one client per process, TLS and credentials, durable deletes, and aligning client TTL with default-ttl and NSUP.
  • Data modeling — 4 rules for design-time work: the one-entity-group-at-a-time design loop, the schema guide and derived summary deliverables, escalation to the Aerospike data modeling guide, and seven failure-mode detection tests to run against a drafted model.

All 35 rules carry an explicit severity marker — 25 HIGH, 10 MEDIUM — so an agent can distinguish a correctness rule from a preference.

Scope

Core database only. Not Aerospike Graph. Cluster operations, sizing, XDR, and backup and restore are deliberately out of scope and defer to the Aerospike Operations documentation.

Content is written for Aerospike server 7.0 and later (metadata.server_versions: 7.0+).

Install

Recommended, for any agent that supports the skills CLI:

npx skills add https://github.com/aerospike/agent-skills/tree/main/compiled-skills/aerospike

For Gemini CLI, add -a gemini-cli, which installs to .agents/skills/aerospike/.

Do not pass the repository root URL. The CLI discovers skills/ first and would install the three uncompiled authoring folders instead of the published skill.

Otherwise, add the single file to always-on context, or upload it to a chat:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aerospike/agent-skills/main/compiled-skills/aerospike/SKILL.md

See the install guide for per-tool paths.

Conformance

The skill conforms to the Agent Skills specification, and two validators run in CI on every pull request: the official skills-ref validator at a pinned commit for spec conformance, and a third-party linter for links, token counts, and layout. Both cover the compiled artifact registries actually fetch, not just the sources.

A separate check fails any pull request where compiled-skills/ has drifted from skills/, so the published file cannot lag the sources it was compiled from. A trigger corpus of positive, negative, and near-miss prompts guards the description field against over- and under-triggering.

Registries

Submission is automated and runs only on a published release. Listings on openagentskill.com and upskill follow this release; upskill lists at the community trust tier. skills.sh has no submission path and indexes from install telemetry only.
