Stacklet 1.3.3
- Changed: maximizing a tiled window (button, double-click on the title bar or a tab strip, KWin's shortcut) now really maximizes it, and the others re-tile around the gap. Restoring it puts it back in its tile, in every layout, including dwindle borders you dragged before maximizing. This also ends the brief stretch-then-snap-back flash from 1.3.2. Windows that open already maximized float until restored.
Stacklet 1.3.2
Bug fixes.
- Fixed: maximizing a tiled window (for example double-clicking a browser's tab strip) took it out of the layout for good, so after unmaximizing it floated and the Stacklet shortcuts ignored it. Only dragging a window out floats it now.
- Fixed: dragging the main window wider than 85% (master and stack, spiral) made it jump back to 55% when the next window opened. It now stays at 85%, the largest main size.
- Fixed: after Meta+Alt+A changed an app list, a later change to that list on the settings page could be ignored until the next login.
- Fixed: a screen plugged in after login didn't re-tile when you rotated it to portrait.
- Fixed: with two main windows set, spiral, centered master and dwindle treated the second window as a main one too ("new windows go to the stack top" and rotating the stack were one place off).
After upgrading, turn Stacklet off and on in KWin Scripts once (or log out and back in) so the new version runs.
Stacklet 1.3.1
A fix for windows that looked tiled but weren't.
- Fixed: a window you dragged out of its tile (so it floated) and then dropped into a tile looked tiled but stayed floating, so the Stacklet shortcuts ignored it ("focus a tiled window first"). Dropping it into a tile now tiles it again.
- Grow / shrink main window (Meta+Alt+] / Meta+Alt+[) now shows an on-screen message when it can't act: the focused window isn't tiled, the layout is monocle, there's only one window, or the main window is already at its largest or smallest size.
After upgrading, turn Stacklet off and on in KWin Scripts once (or log out and back in) so the new version runs.
Stacklet 1.3.0
A fifth layout, and floating that fits "Tile all apps" better.
- Dwindle layout, as in Hyprland: a new window splits the focused window's tile (side by side or top and bottom, by the tile's shape), and a closed window's neighbour takes its space. Pick it on the settings page or with Meta+Shift+Space.
- Split keys for dwindle: Meta+Alt+H / Meta+Alt+V open the next window beside / below the focused one (press again for automatic), Meta+Alt+E flips the focused window's split. Borders you drag between dwindle windows stay put.
- Modal dialogs and windows that can't be resized float in every mode, also when the app opens them without a parent (before, that check only applied with "Tile all apps").
- "Tile all apps" floats password managers (KeePassXC, Bitwarden, 1Password) and Stacklet's own settings page.
- Games and media players have their own checkbox, "Float games and media players" (on by default): Steam, game launchers, Windows (.exe) apps and video and music players. Untick it to tile them while system apps keep floating.
- Fixed: after a window closed, the next window you focused could get focus pulled back to another one.
After upgrading, turn Stacklet off and on in KWin Scripts once (or log out and back in) so the new version runs.
Stacklet 1.2.0
A friendlier Apps tab, especially if you tile all your apps.
- Two lists instead of one. "Tile these apps" and "Never tile"; the one "Tile all apps" doesn't use is greyed out. Before, ticking "Tile every window" turned your terminal list into an exclude list, so your terminals started floating.
- "Tile all apps" floats system apps by default. System Settings, file pickers and password prompts, Steam and games, calculators and screenshot tools, image viewers, video and music players, and "Configure …" dialogs stay floating. Untick "Float system apps and utilities" for the old behaviour.
- Meta+Alt+A saves. It adds or removes the focused window's app in your settings instead of lasting until restart, and works on the built-in floating apps too.
- Meta+F tiles any window, including apps Stacklet leaves floating. Press it again to float it.
- No more turning Stacklet off and on. Settings apply when you close or leave System Settings.
- Help for new users: a one-time note on the first start, the five keys to learn first at the top of the Shortcuts tab, plainer size hints, and a "Not tiling?" hint on the Apps tab.
Upgrading with "Tile every window" on: your old exclude list moves to "Never tile" on the first start (needs plasmashell running).
After upgrading, turn Stacklet off and on in KWin Scripts once. From then on, settings apply by themselves.
Stacklet 1.1.2
- Fixes an empty tile taken by an invisible helper window, such as Xwayland Video Bridge. Windows hidden from both the taskbar and the task switcher are no longer tiled, and a window that leaves the layout no longer ends up sharing another window's tile.
- New setting under Behaviour: turn off "Dragging a window out of its tile floats it" and a dragged window snaps back to its tile when you let go. Dropping it on another tile still swaps the two, and Meta+F still floats it. On by default, so nothing changes unless you untick it.
After upgrading, turn Stacklet off and on in KWin Scripts.
Stacklet 1.1.1
Fixes an empty gap in the layout when one of the windows was on another Activity. Stacklet now only tiles windows on the current Activity, and re-tiles when you move a window to another Activity or switch Activities. A dragged width is kept when you visit an empty Activity.
New tests: tests/activities/run.sh (runs Plasma's activity service in a private virtual KWin) and tests/dialogs/run.sh (dialogs, About boxes and tool windows stay floating).
Stacklet 1.1.0
New layout, new shortcuts and a scratchpad.
- Centered layout: the main window in the middle (50% wide by default), the others in columns on both sides. You can pick it per desktop (
centered), and it is part of the Meta+Shift+Space layout cycle. - Spotlight (Meta+Alt+C): centres the focused window and moves the rest to the stash columns. Press again to restore.
- Scratchpad: Meta+Ctrl+S hides a window in the scratchpad. Meta+S shows the next one centred on top, and the press after the last one hides it. Meta+Ctrl+S on a shown window puts it back.
- Smart gaps now apply in monocle too.
- Layouts switched by shortcut and dragged widths are usually kept after a restart.
- Clearer settings page: bold section headings, smaller help text, and numbered scratchpad steps.
Stacklet 1.0.1
Fixes two shortcut clashes from 1.0.0: tile / untile this app is now Meta+Alt+A (was Meta+Shift+A, Plasma's previous activity), and rotate the stack is now Meta+Alt+T / Meta+Alt+Shift+T (was Meta+Alt+R, Spectacle's Record Screen). Upgrading picks up the new keys. If you changed those two shortcuts yourself, set them again.
Stacklet 1.0.0
