v0.10.0.13 — Rendering stability and readback reuse
Rendering stability and readback reuse
- Synchronizes shader memory writes with CPU reads and reuses staging buffers instead of allocating them for every operation.
- Retains fast resolve readback, Mip0 and simplified shader flow.
- Removes the launcher quit warning during gameplay.
The M3 tester reported steadier, better performance with no graphical errors observed in Gunsmith, campaign and Guerrilla. No controlled percentage gain or universal 30 FPS guarantee is claimed.
Known limitations
Additional campaign saves retaining unlocks remain unresolved. Startup catalog prewarming is disabled and shader caches are isolated per launch to avoid problematic stored state; compilation hitches may remain. Experimental campaign-folder and guest-cache changes are not included.
Use your own Xbox 360 ISO. Existing installation and UserData are retained. Download GRFS-Recompiled-macOS-arm64.zip or update through the launcher. update.json uses the existing pinned signing key.
v0.10.0.12 — Shader preparation & fullscreen progress
Shader preparation and display controls
- Prepare validated local shader/pipeline records before gameplay and retain a compatible local GPU driver cache, with fresh gameplay binding identities.
- Dark GRFS preparation panel follows the game display, appears over native fullscreen and closes on completion or game submissions.
- F5 host presentation limits (30/60/120/unlimited), Metal HUD plus game submission/stall counter, and rounded black app/Dock icons.
- Preserves ISO installation, signed updates, controls, saves, Mip0, MSAA and synchronous rendering.
Validation and limits
The owner approved the catalog trial and fullscreen panel fix, reporting better perceived performance and reduced distant-model flicker. No controlled M3 FPS uplift or guaranteed 30 FPS is claimed. On M4 Pro, the same 1,121-pipeline catalog took 218.6 seconds on first preparation and 16.4 seconds on reopening, with zero creation failures. These are startup times, not frame times.
First preparation can take several minutes. Unknown states may still compile during gameplay. Full ISO extraction is NOT enabled in this release.
Download GRFS-Recompiled-macOS-arm64.zip or accept the signed launcher update. Apple Silicon/macOS 27+, compatible Xbox 360 ISO required. Uses Diagnostics/CacheCatalogV1; previous caches and saves are retained. Ad-hoc signed, not notarized.

v0.10.0.11 — Combined shader flow & dynamic clear grouping
Combined rendering changes
- Simplify control flow in three exact pixel shader variants, preserving texture operations and effects.
- Group compatible independent depth/stencil and color clears through explicit dynamic-rendering attachments, including guest 10-bit color. Unsupported work retains the original path.
- Keep Mip0, MSAA, synchronous compilation/submission, F5, native fullscreen/Game Mode, controls, saves and the ISO installer.
Validation and limits
The M3 owner reported no visual bugs in the combined test. Captures confirmed all three target shaders and 777 grouped clears. The slow scene measured 12.91–13.11 game requests/s with 76.3–77.5 ms mean intervals; these are not displayed FPS. No controlled frame-rate uplift or guaranteed 30 FPS is claimed. Dynamic-clear pixel-equivalence tests passed 48 cases on M4 Pro. First-use shader compilation can still cause pauses.
Install/update
Download GRFS-Recompiled-macOS-arm64.zip or accept the signed update in the existing launcher. CacheCombinedFlowV1 separates the changed shader variants; previous caches, game data and saves are retained. Apple Silicon/macOS 27+, your compatible Xbox 360 ISO required. Ad-hoc signed, not notarized.
Source changes and licenses are attached. SDK baseline: https://github.com/alex-stampede/GRFS-Recomp/releases/download/v0.10.0.1/ReXGlue-SDK-source.tar.gz . No original game data or private signing keys are included.
v0.10.0.10 — Texture fixes & improved EDRAM handling
Graphics fixes
- Correct texture color exponent decoding in the Xenos → SPIR-V translator.
- Enable unclipped draw extent estimation, the configuration that passed the owner’s Gunsmith, campaign and Guerrilla tests on MacBook Air M3.
- Bypass problematic cached pipeline preload while retaining guest shader storage, SPIR-V optimization and in-process pipeline reuse.
- Use a separate CacheTextureExponentV1 directory; earlier caches and saves remain untouched.
Validation and limits
The owner validated the final packaged app on M3 and reported smoother play with correct visuals. No controlled FPS uplift or guaranteed 30 FPS is claimed. First-use pipeline compilation can still cause hitches. Experimental eager drawable acquisition is disabled; shader compilation and queue submission remain synchronous.
Update
Download GRFS-Recompiled-macOS-arm64.zip or accept the signed launcher update. Mip0, MSAA, F5, fullscreen/Game Mode, controls, installed game files, saves and the ISO installer are retained. Requires Apple Silicon, macOS 27+, and your compatible Xbox 360 game dump.
Sources and SDK patches are attached. SDK baseline: https://github.com/alex-stampede/GRFS-Recomp/releases/download/v0.10.0.1/ReXGlue-SDK-source.tar.gz
No game assets, saves or private signing keys are distributed.
v0.10.0.9 — Shader optimization & smoother GPU submission
Shader optimization
Translated shaders now use validated Khronos SPIRV-Tools performance passes before MoltenVK pipeline compilation. Known pipeline records prepare optimized variants at startup. Precision rules, shader interfaces, mip0, MSAA and synchronous compilation remain. New effects can still compile on first use.
Measured result and limits
Warm-cache comparison on Mac mini M4 Pro 24 GB: 22.26 → 24.24 game requests/s, 44.92 → 41.26 ms mean interval, 47.68 → 44.18 ms p95 (about 9% higher throughput). These are game requests, not unique displayed FPS. M3 improvement remains to be measured; 30 FPS is not guaranteed. The owner confirmed the final image and controls.
Metal drawable acquisition also occurs outside the Vulkan queue lock while command submission remains synchronous. No async submission, mipmap, alpha-specialization or render-area experiments are included.
Update
Download GRFS-Recompiled-macOS-arm64.zip or accept the signed launcher update. F5, fullscreen/Game Mode, controls, installed game data, saves and persistent shader storage are preserved. Apple Silicon/macOS 27+, user-provided compatible Xbox 360 ISO required. Ad-hoc signed, not notarized.
SDK baseline source: https://github.com/alex-stampede/GRFS-Recomp/releases/download/v0.10.0.1/ReXGlue-SDK-source.tar.gz plus this release’s source/patch archive and SPIRV-Tools license. No game assets or diagnostic saves included.
v0.10.0.8 — Resolution, display mode and Save & Restart
Display settings in F5
Open Extras → Options → F5. Choose Fullscreen or Windowed, and a 720p, 900p, 1080p (default) or Native output limit. Press Save and restart to apply both settings.
Native macOS fullscreen and Game Mode support are retained. The cap preserves aspect ratio, never enlarges a smaller window and does not change the desktop display mode. A 3420×2148 fullscreen surface capped at 1080p uses 1719×1080. This limits presentation output, not Xbox internal render targets.
Restart and preservation
The corrected restart follows the established window-close path, then the launcher relaunches after a matching one-use request and successful exit. Ordinary closes and crashes do not restart. Mip0, synchronous shaders, controls, game data, saves, persistent shader cache and installer flow remain. Dynamic mipmaps are not enabled.
Validation and limits
The owner confirmed resolution and display-mode selection, restart and application of both settings. The development log shows a new 1600×900 swapchain after restart. Package/signature, output sizing, restart-token, display preference and updater/backup tests passed. No new measured M3 FPS gain or guaranteed 30 FPS is claimed. Existing graphical issues and shader compilation stalls remain under investigation.

v0.10.0.7 — Idle UI fix and optional performance HUD
Idle UI fix
PC Settings now detaches from the renderer while the original Options screen is closed. Its previously invisible dialog kept the host UI redraw loop active.
Optional performance HUD
Open Extras → Options → F5 → Performance HUD, then Save settings. Off by default. Shows game swap requests per second, mean interval and p95 over two seconds. This excludes UI redraws, but is not a GPU-completed or unique-image FPS counter. The normal launcher disables inherited Apple HUD presentation counters.
Validation and limits
The owner verified F5, HUD on/off, saving settings and returning to gameplay with image and controls intact. On the M4 Pro startup check, host presentations fell from about 138/s to 60/s while game requests stayed around 30/s. This is reduced redraw work, not a measured M3 gameplay FPS increase. Existing GPU-heavy gameplay and visual issues remain under investigation.
The v0.10.0.6 GPU/runtime, mip0, synchronous shaders, native fullscreen/Game Mode, game data, saves, controls and installer flow are retained. No async rendering, resolution change or FPS cap is enabled.
Install/update: Download the ZIP or accept the signed update in your installed launcher. Apple Silicon, macOS 27.0+, compatible user-provided Xbox 360 ISO required. Ad-hoc signed; not notarized.

v0.10.0.6 — Persistent Shader Cache & Transparent App Icon
Persistent shader cache
- Fixes macOS cache files being truncated when reopened. Known shaders and pipeline records are retained across sessions.
- Copies existing shader storage into a separate CachePersistent directory, preserving the original for rollback. The Game Mode test cache is preferred when present.
- The owner reports smoother revisited areas on MacBook Air M3 after the second run. This is a user observation, not an FPS or temperature benchmark. New effects can still compile shaders during play.
Transparent application icon
The application icon now matches the transparent GRFS skull shown in the Dock. Applies to both launcher and game bundles.
Native fullscreen/Game Mode, synchronous compilation, controls and current graphics settings are retained. No async rendering, FPS cap or geometry experiment is enabled. Existing visual issues remain. Saves and game data are preserved.
The README now includes current Campaign, Gunsmith and Guerrilla screenshots.
Install/update: Download the ZIP, or accept the signed update in the installed launcher. Apple Silicon, macOS 27.0+, compatible user-provided Xbox 360 ISO required. Ad-hoc signed; not notarized.
SDK source: Previously distributed source archive plus the macOS persistent-cache patch.
v0.10.0.5 — macOS Game Mode & Dock Icon
macOS Game Mode
- Starts in native macOS fullscreen and declares Game Mode support.
- Game Mode activation was confirmed on the development Mac.
- If you previously disabled Game Mode for GRFS, enable it in Game Overlay; macOS remembers that preference. Windowed mode remains available.
Transparent Dock icon
The launcher and game now use the transparent GRFS skull directly.
This release preserves the v0.10.0.4 game/runtime/GPU code, controls and graphics configuration. It does not include the performance or geometry experiments. Existing game files, saves and shader storage are preserved. Existing visual bugs remain.
