GAIA v0.25.3 Release Notes

What's New

• Add any GGUF chat model from Hugging Face by pasting its link — in Settings › Model, the terminal UI's /provider › Local (Ctrl+A), or gaia model add. GAIA checks that the model loads and fits this PC before saving it. (PR #5559)
• Run the GAIA agent once from a script or CI job — gaia -p "<prompt>" prints only the answer, or JSON with --output-format json, and exits non-zero when the turn fails. (PR #5962)
• Search chats by anything said in them, not just the title, ignoring case and accents. (PR #5586)
• Run now on a scheduled task tries it immediately and keeps its next scheduled time. (PR #5720)
• Index .epub books chapter by chapter. A file GAIA can't read is refused with advice on converting it, instead of being indexed as garbage. (PR #5644)
• Generate music and sound effects locally with Lemonade's audio-generation models. (PR #6064)
• The new chat opens on an NPU-dot backdrop, and every chat shows its working folder beside the model in the composer. (PR #5560)
• Lemonade Server v2026.44.1 brings image generation back to the GPU on Windows and reports AMD GPU usage and VRAM there. (PR #6020)

Bug Fixes

• Agents on AMD LLM Gateway models run their tool calls instead of finishing without doing the work. GAIA asks each cloud model once whether it calls tools natively. (PR #5963)
• The GAIA agent in the Agent UI sees the tool calls it made on earlier turns, so "why did that fail?" gets an answer. (PR #5806)
• A local model keeps its context window after another model evicts it, instead of coming back at 4K tokens, and Settings › Model › Context size works for more models. (PR #5970)
• gaia chat --index, gaia talk --index and enable_rag index the named file from any folder. (PR #6067)
• The first code search on a large repo no longer hangs the turn — the index builds in the background and search reports its progress. (PR #5805)
• An update restarts the daemon even while the Agent UI's own GAIA agent is running. (PR #6072)
• Turning auto-update off stops the desktop app installing on quit, the two apps keep each other's update settings and version pin, arm64 Linux finds its update, and the terminal UI no longer says "up to date" when a release has no installer for this PC. (PR #5974)
• Two GAIA processes starting together on a new database no longer fail with "database is locked". (PRs #5953, #6045)
• The daemon starts in its own folder, so on Windows it no longer locks the folder it was launched from, and it no longer reads that folder's mcp_servers.json. (PR #5960)
• Reading, listing, browsing, finding, searching, running and writing a bare file name all use the chat's folder. (PR #6009)
• Deep file searches look in your home folder before scanning the whole disk. (PR #6079)
• The terminal UI checks the local model you picked when your default is a gateway model, instead of offering a ~4 GB download. (PR #6017)
• gaia gateway install restores the token saved by gaia gateway auth after Lemonade restarts. (PR #6077)
• gaia llm with a cloud thinking model prints only the answer, and concurrent calls no longer receive each other's reasoning. (PRs #6068, #6011)
• Setup output in the Agent UI has no terminal colour codes, and the Schedules dialog keeps its list when pause, delete or create fails. (PRs #6076, #6050)
• A relayed turn that ends while its approved step waits now says the step didn't run, and Stop stays stopped. (PR #6029)
• Email agent guidance names the Connectors tab. (PR #6018)
• Docs — the C++ guide states its OpenAI authentication limit, and the /query memory and path fields, email queue status fields and skills tool mixins are documented. (PRs #6062, #6061, #6058, #6028)

Known Issues

• The first chat after launching the desktop app can wait on "Waiting for the GPU" and never start when a background task GAIA proposed for itself is holding the model. Restart the app to free it. Tracked in #6006.
• Attaching an image on a PC that uses only AMD LLM Gateway models starts a ~5 GB vision-model download inside the turn. Run gaia download --agent vlm first so the download happens up front. Tracked in #5990.
• A relayed GAIA turn can lose its final answer after you approve a prompt, about one time in ten. It now says the step didn't run; send the message again. Tracked in #6019.
• A repo picked with index_codebase is forgotten on the next turn, so a follow-up code search finds nothing. Name the repo again in the follow-up. Tracked in #6055.
• Some tools still resolve a bare file name against GAIA's own folder, not the chat's: shell working folders, code search, watched folders, and saved audio, screenshot and download paths. Give them full paths. Tracked in #6065.

Installation

Desktop installer (recommended for end users)

Download the installer for your platform from the assets below:

• Windows — the GAIA installer from https://amd-gaia.ai/#install (gaia-*-win-x64-setup.exe): choose the desktop app, the terminal, or both. gaia-agent-ui-*-x64-setup.exe below is the desktop app on its own (autostart on by default)
• macOS — gaia-agent-ui-*-arm64.dmg (drag to Applications, Apple Silicon only)
• Linux — gaia-agent-ui-*-amd64.deb (Debian/Ubuntu) or gaia-agent-ui-*-x86_64.AppImage (any distro)

On first launch the app sets up its Python backend automatically (~5–10 minutes for the minimal profile, depends on your internet speed).
