User Guide
Everything in Lumen works with the D-pad, OK and Back. There's nothing you need a touchscreen, mouse or keyboard for, apart from typing a new name when you rename an app.
- The home screen
- Opening and managing apps
- Favourites
- Recent
- Hidden apps
- Top bar
- Alerts
- Customizing
- Remote cheat sheet
From top to bottom:
- Clock and date, and any alerts underneath.
- Top bar: network status, notifications, voice search, inputs and settings.
- Favourites: your pinned apps as large banners, ending with a + Add tile.
- Recent: apps you opened lately that aren't already in Favourites.
- Apps: every app on the TV that can be opened, with a count next to the title.
Press Home or Back at any time to jump back to the first favourite.
Press OK on an app to open it.
To manage it, hold OK for a second or press the Menu (☰) button. A small menu opens next to the app:
| Option | What it does | Shown for |
|---|---|---|
| Open | Opens the app | all |
| Add to Favourites / Remove from Favourites | Pins or unpins the app | all |
| Move | Lets you reposition it in Favourites | Favourites |
| Rename | Gives the app your own name in Lumen | all |
| Remove from Recent | Clears it from the Recent row | Recent |
| Hide from Apps | Removes it from the Apps grid | Apps |
| App info | Opens Android's page for the app (storage, permissions, force stop, updates) | all |
| Uninstall | Removes the app from the TV | apps you installed |
Built-in system apps can't be uninstalled from here; Android doesn't allow it.
Renaming only changes the name inside Lumen. To go back to the app's own name, choose Rename again and select Use original name, or clear the text and save.
- Pin an app: use + Add at the end of the row and pick from the list, or choose Add to Favourites from any app's menu.
- Reorder: open the app's menu, choose Move, then press ◀ ▶. The tile is outlined in blue while it's moving. Press OK or Back when it's where you want it. Up and Down are ignored while moving, so you can't lose your place.
- Unpin: choose Remove from Favourites.
On first launch Lumen pins the popular streaming apps it finds installed. If an app in Favourites is uninstalled, it simply disappears from the row.
Shows up to eight apps you opened from Lumen, newest first. Apps that are already favourites aren't repeated. Use Remove from Recent to clear one, or turn the row off under Customize.
Apps opened by other means (for example from a notification or a voice command) aren't counted.
Hide from Apps removes an app from the grid without uninstalling it. Hidden apps can still be favourites.
To bring one back, select the Hidden · N chip at the right of the Apps title, or go to ⚙ → Customize home screen → Hidden apps, and pick the app.
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Wi‑Fi / Ethernet / Offline | Current connection. Dimmed when offline |
| 🔔 Notifications | Badge with the number of notifications. Select it to see them; choose one to open it, or Clear all. Ongoing and background-service notifications are left out to keep the list useful. Needs notification access |
| 🎤 Search | Starts the TV's voice search or assistant |
| ⇥ Inputs | Lists HDMI and AV inputs, with connected ones first and marked connected. Choose one to switch to it |
| ⚙ Settings | Customize the home screen, or jump to the TV's own settings pages |
The settings menu contains:
| Entry | Opens |
|---|---|
| Customize home screen | Lumen's own options (below) |
| Network & internet | Wi‑Fi and Ethernet settings. Shows the current state underneath |
| Picture | The TV's picture settings (falls back to Display & sound if the TV has no separate page) |
| Display & sound | Resolution, sound output and related settings |
| Remotes & accessories | Pairing remotes, gamepads and Bluetooth devices |
| Storage | Storage settings. Shows free space underneath |
| Apps | Android's app manager (update, clear data, permissions) |
| Date & time | Time zone and clock settings |
| All settings | The full Android settings app |
The Settings apps themselves aren't listed in the Apps grid, because the gear already leads there.
Alerts appear under the date only when something needs attention, and disappear on their own once it's fixed. Select an alert to open the right settings page.
| Alert | Colour | When it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Not connected to a network | red | No Wi‑Fi or Ethernet connection |
| Wi‑Fi connected · No internet access | red | Connected, but Android can't reach the internet (router down, ISP outage, blocked DNS) |
| Wi‑Fi needs sign-in | amber | A hotel or office network is waiting for you to sign in |
| Storage running low · X free | amber | Less than 1 GB, or less than 10 %, of internal storage free |
| Storage almost full · X free | red | Less than 500 MB, or less than 5 %, free. Apps may fail to update or install |
Storage is checked every minute while the home screen is visible; network changes are picked up immediately.
To free storage: ⚙ → Apps, then clear the cache of large apps, or uninstall apps you don't use.
⚙ → Customize home screen. Each option changes the moment you press OK on it, so you can see the result behind the menu. Press OK again to cycle to the next value, and Back to close.
