UI-Grid grouping: Extra blank rows getting displayed when a row is expanded

Hi,
I am facing a weird issue. When I group by 4 or more columns, and then expand a row, then extra blank rows show up. Even more weird thing is that on collapsing and expanding the parent row again, some of these blank rows disappear. I have searched for this issue extensively, but I did not find any help. We are fetching the data though a remote REST API call. I can attach the screenshot of the problem. We are simply using the group by feature of the ui-grid. Please feel free to get back to me if you need any more information.

Hi Marcelo, I would have loved to provide the issue on plunker. But as stated in the problem definition, we are using REST API calls to fetch the data. And the company policies forbid us from making them public. But as said earlier, we are not trying anything different. It is just a simple grouping of more than 3 columns on ui-grid. So ideally it should be reproducible by any remote data. Interesting thing is that this issue doesn't show up till you group by more than 3 columns. Best, Abhishek

I was never expecting you to use proprietary data, but I was hoping it could be reproduced with a fake REST API on plunker since that would go a long way in helping me debug it. I will try to see if I can somehow fake that myself and if so, I will post the results of my findings here and begin debugging. I will try to take a look at it tonight when I am home, although you have any more information that you could provide me, such as console errors or anything of that sort, that would probably be helpful, even if it redacted.

I used a Rest API provided by https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/, and I still can't reproduce the issue in question. I also tried to make my plunker as close to what I see in your screenshot as possible. If you can make any changes to this plunker and reproduce it, that might help me.

Hi Marcelo,
I had a look at the plunker that you have created. It is a little different from our case. In the network response I can see that the data for all the grouped columns are there. However, we perform grouping by dragging and dropping the columns. The server call is made only for the first drag and drop operation. And the response provides the grouped data for that column only. The functionality has to be that way, as there are technical constraints. Can we have a short call (hangout/skype) as per your convenience, so that we can discuss the issue? I will also try to modify the response data of pluker and try to make it as close to our response as possible. I hope we will be able to reproduce the issue then. Thanks again for all the help. :-)

We are trying to replicate the issue on Plunker. However, it is a tricky thing to do, as we are not directly using ui-grid. We have our own wrapper written on top of ui-grid. I have however, observed some more weird behavior. Here is the step-wise description:

1. We group by more than 3 columns by dragging and dropping the columns.
2. We expand a row. Blank rows appear along with properly populated rows.
3. I collapse the parent row and expand again. All the blank rows except one are gone.

We are trying to replicate the issue on plunker. We will let you know as soon as we are able to do that. However, I request you to please discuss this issue internally with your team. Any help/pointers on this issue will be a great help. I am also thoroughly going through the ui-grid documentation. Any help on this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
