IE9 - window.history.back() - $locationWatch() - infinite digest

In the app I was developing, calling $window.history.back() was freezing the IE9.

I've found the workaround here: http://stackoverflow.com/a/23915946/775359

It seems the root cause is that $window.history.back() in IE changes the href right before the $locationWatch() is fired hence oldUrl would contain the new Url and that throws off the angular into an infinite $digest.

(in the app the window.history.back() was freezing completely, on the video it only throws some red errors in the console but is able to recover)

As I know that @tbosch made several changes to history api issues on IE9 after August 2014 - is this still a valid defect? I guess it is in the current versions not happening anymore. In the current version we use, we never experience any history related issues on IE9 - testing.

Same here, the angular version that I am using is 1.2.6 and IE9.

The workaround works for me too, but I have to use setTimeout, and $timeout does not work neither.

Is there any other and cleaner workaround apart of upgrading angular version (that could be too painful I think)?
