Hokum 0.1.2
Click-to-update: Hokum now tells you when a new build is out.
- The running service checks for a new build a minute after it starts and
then hourly, fetching its channel's release manifest as
hokum/<channel>/<version>(#6). - When a different build is out, one Hokum card offers it. Nothing installs
without a click (#7). - A plain install you can write (
~/.local/bin/hokum) updates when you
click the card's Update button: Hokum downloads the new executable, checks its size and sha256,
replaces itself and restarts. For installs from the AUR, .deb or .rpm the
card shows the package manager's update command instead, and its button
copies it (#7). - New command:
hokum updatechecks now, andhokum update --installdoes
what the card's Update button does (#7). - Set
check-for-updates #falseinbehaviourinconfig.kdlto turn the
checks off. - The check compares the sha256 of Hokum's own executable, so the card no
longer offers an update when you already run the current build (#8).
Hokum 0.1.1
Fixes and a control CLI, plus Omarchy support.
- Notifications that replace an earlier one (volume and brightness OSDs, using
replaces_idor a stack tag) now update the card in place instead of
stacking a new one, and the progress bar animates between values (#1,
thanks @paperbenni). - New commands to control the running daemon:
hokum dismiss [--all]
closes the newest card (or all of them),hokum invokeclicks the newest
card, andhokum dnd [on|off|toggle]sets Do not disturb;hokum dnd
prints the state,--jsonprints{"dnd":true}and--watchkeeps
printing whenever it changes (#3, thanks @uncomplexity). - The same controls are on D-Bus as methods of
app.hokum.Daemonat
/app/hokum/Daemon, with aDoNotDisturbproperty bars can watch. - Omarchy support: Hokum reads the hints
omarchy-notification-sendsets
(omarchy-exec-argvruns on click,omarchy-actionsbecome buttons, and
omarchy-glyphstands in for the app's letter), and
docs/omarchy.md explains how to switch over and rebind
Omarchy's notification keys (#3).
Hokum 0.1.0
Hokum for Wayland compositors with zwlr_layer_shell_v1 (niri, sway,
Hyprland), for Linux x86_64 and aarch64.
- A new settings window: a sidebar with Appearance, Behaviour and
Applications, a page per app (mute, how long its cards stay, breaking
through Do not disturb), and screens that switch instantly. Appearance picks
one of the built-in themes, or your own from~/.config/hokum/themes/. - Custom themes are written by your coding agent: Make your own theme
under Appearance gives you a prompt to copy that points it at
https://hokum.app, the complete guide to the theme format. The look
controls, per-app colour and layout, and Clone to edit are gone from the
window;tokens, templateand rules inconfig.kdlstill work. - Breaking change for custom themes:
behaviour(position, how long cards
stay, how many show, pause on hover, Do not disturb, appearance) is set only
inconfig.kdl. A theme with abehaviourblock is reported as a problem;
move that block into yourconfig.kdl. hokum check [path]reports problems inconfig.kdl, or in a theme or
config file, and exits non-zero if there are any.- A rule's
template "…"can name a template from the theme, any theme it
starts from, or the config itself. - Clicking a notification now works on the first click, and the app can raise
its window: Hokum sends an XDG activation token (ActivationToken) before
ActionInvoked, which Slack and other libnotify/Electron apps use on
Wayland. - The first time Hokum runs, it shows one welcome card with an
Open Settings button.
Hokum 0.0.3
Hokum for Wayland compositors with zwlr_layer_shell_v1 (niri, sway,
Hyprland), for Linux x86_64 and aarch64.
- Hokum is on the AUR for the first time:
yay -S hokum-bin(0.0.1 and
0.0.2 never reached it). - From 0.0.2, which AUR users never got: Capsule, with app icons, is the
default theme for new installs (and for anyconfig.kdlthat names no
theme); a config withtheme "…"keeps its theme. Web notifications from
Chromium-based browsers no longer show the browser's per-site "Settings"
button. - Debian/Ubuntu and Fedora/openSUSE: install
hokum.deborhokum.rpmbelow
withaptordnf, or always the newest stable from
https://anoma.ly/release/hokum/desktop/stable/linux-x64-deb(-rpm, or
linux-arm64-…). The bare executables are below too. - Hokum starts through D-Bus activation on the first notification; to start
it with the session instead, runsystemctl --user enable --now hokum.service.
