Input in serial monitor causing Arduino board restart

I am testing the "spacemouse" firmware from AndunHH (https://github.com/AndunHH/spacemouse).

I followed the instructions and uploaded the firmware to the Pro Micro board (ATMEGA32U4). The board is connected to the computer and the correct baud rate is set. If I enter any command in the serial monitor (for example "1" to list the joystick values), the arduino board restarts. If I use the Legacy IDE (1.8.19), everything works normally. I apologize that I cannot describe the problem better.

Hi @martina4618798. The reason for the different results between each version of Arduino IDE is because you have a different line ending configuration in each of the IDE's Serial Monitor. For some reason, the spacemouse sketch code causes the board to reset if you send it data without a line ending (likely a bug in their code rather than an intentional behavior). So you have the Arduino IDE 1.8.19 Serial Monitor correctly configured to send a line ending, but you have the Arduino IDE 2.3.6 Serial Monitor configured for "No Line Ending".

The solution will be to correctly configure Serial Monitor. Do that by selecting "New Line" from the drop-down menu near the top right corner of the Serial Monitor panel. After doing that, the reset problem should no longer occur.
