Avatars sometimes disappear

Some users' avatars are showing as broken links (not the default avatar). For example:

kas: http://forum.arduino.cc/avatars/smurfs.gif
PaulS: http://forum.arduino.cc/avatars/tigger.gif

Those documents return a 404 not found page.

They must have existed once (I remember PaulS had a "tigger" avatar) and since the forum is not trying to serve up the "no avatar" graphic then there must be some caching problem.

My own avatar is currently working: http://static.arduino.cc/avatars/nickgammon.jpg

Notice that this is from "static.arduino.cc" whereas the others are from "forum.arduino.cc", if that makes a difference.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. In any case this does not explain why avatars for people like PaulS are there sometimes and not others, and sometimes show as broken links.
