Github Connection not working - Chapter 6

I have the GitHub connection problem from Chapter 6.

Error: --choose github repo-- and there is nothing to choose from
connection is fine.

Can you please check your code one more time. Maybe there was changes.

Are you running the 6-end codebase from our repo? Please try running that with your environmental variables and let me know.

Thanks for confirming. I dug deeper and see where the issue is coming from.

In server/github.js file, we have the following code:

function getRepos({ user, request }) {
  const github = getAPI({ user, request });

  return github.repos.listForAuthenticatedUser({
    visibility: 'private',
    per_page: 100,
    affiliation: 'owner',
  });
}

By having visibility: 'private', we specify that only private GitHub repos will appear in your list of repos. When you fork our public demo-book repo, it becomes a public repo in your GitHub account. Thus, it is will not appear in your list of repos. In the code snippet above, if you change private to public or all, you should be able to see your repos.

This is a good catch! We need to explain to how to copy our demo-book repo and make it private, since the goal of the builderbook app is to sell content that is private.

Here is how you can copy our demo-book repo and make it a private repo in your own GitHub account.

(1) Create an empty, private repo in your GitHub account.
(2) On your local machine, run git clone --bare https://github.com/async-labs/demo-book.git
(3) Access the code you just cloned: cd demo-book.git
(4) Push this code to your private repo: git push --mirror https://github.com/yourusername/private_repo.git

Now if you go to the private repo you created, you should see that it contains the content from our demo-book repo.
