Monitor — menu-bar DDC/CI control for external displays on Apple Silicon, plus the ddcx/hdr CLIs. Built from a live reverse-engineered protocol spec (SPEC.md); verified on a Dell U4025QW over Thunderbolt/USB-C on an M2 Max host.

Downloads

  • MonitorApp-1.0.0.zip — the menu-bar app (macOS 14+, Apple Silicon)
  • ddcx-hdr-macos-arm64.tar.gz — the CLI tools

First launch (unsigned binary — no Apple Developer ID): Gatekeeper will question the app. Right-click Monitor.app → Open → Open, or once via Terminal:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /path/to/Monitor.app

Highlights

  • Brightness / contrast / volume with checksum-verified write-back
  • Input switching, PIP/PBP modes + pane input, Dell KVM next-device
  • Lock-aware macOS HDR toggle: the U4025QW silently drops brightness writes while macOS HDR is on — detected, explained, one-click release
  • Controls are probed live: rows appear only for VCPs your monitor actually implements
  • Known firmware gate: brightness above 75 needs a one-time physical button confirm (ENERGY STAR nag) — the app marks it and verifies the outcome
