yfmd v0.11.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 14:58

yfmd v0.11.0 opens a blank page after the guide, reloads files that change on disk, and narrows what the desktop app is allowed to read.

What's new

  • Blank start: the first launch opens the Markdown Guide. Later launches open an empty page. Help → Markdown Guide opens the guide again. Sidebar, outline, focus mode, typewriter mode, source mode, and read-only are remembered between launches.
  • Files changed on disk: a clean document reloads when the file changes outside the editor. Unsaved edits ask you to reload or keep them, and autosave stays paused until you reload or save. A file removed on disk is left unsaved instead of being written back.
  • Word count: each Han, Hiragana, Katakana, or Hangul character counts as one word. Reading time uses 200 words per minute for other words and 400 characters per minute for those.
  • Spellcheck: the editor turns on the system spellchecker.
  • Folder tree: opening a folder lists one level. Expanding a subfolder loads the next level.
  • Check for Updates: Help compares this version with the latest GitHub release. A current install shows a notice. A newer release, or a failed check, opens the releases page.
  • HTML themes: a custom theme stylesheet included in an HTML export has style-tag breakouts escaped, and @import, expression(, and javascript: removed. The editor still applies only the theme's color palette.
  • Desktop access: opening a file or folder grants that directory. The asset protocol does not serve SSH, GPG, AWS, or kube credential paths, and the window content policy limits scripts and network connections.
  • Editor polish: source mode stays on when you open another file. Image save failures show a notice. Menus work from the keyboard, and shortcuts show ⌘ on macOS.

yfmd v0.10.1

Choose a tag to compare

@automaticdai automaticdai released this 03 Oct 09:42

yfmd v0.10.1 improves document safety, Windows path handling, and image imports and exports.

Fixes

  • Safer saving and opening: edits made during a save remain marked as unsaved. Overlapping saves preserve write order, and a slow file open no longer silently replaces newer edits or a more recently opened document.
  • Editor settings survive document switches: read-only mode, syntax preferences, focus/typewriter modes, and code line numbers are restored when opening or creating a document.
  • Windows paths: drive-letter and UNC paths are handled when opening and renaming documents, storing images, and resolving local resources.
  • File-tree context menus: mouse clicks now execute Rename, New File, and Delete actions correctly.
  • Image imports: the desktop app has the permission required to read selected image files.
  • Portable image exports: HTML and PDF exports embed local images resolved relative to the source document. Missing local images report an export error. Remote images retain their URLs and still require network access.
  • HTML save dialog: HTML exports use an HTML file filter.
  • Editor polish: unordered list markers render as round bullets, and the source-mode menu item shows its enabled checkmark.

yfmd v0.10.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Sep 02:27
302d7be

What's new in 0.10.0

References

  • [^id] footnote markers now render as numbered superscripts in the editor, and [^id]: text definition lines render as a numbered reference list — both revealing their raw markdown when the cursor touches them, like the rest of the live preview.
  • Footnotes are numbered by order of first reference; a definition with no reference is numbered after the referenced ones.
  • HTML and PDF export collect definitions into a proper footnotes section with back-links to each reference. Previously a marker printed its raw id instead of a number, and definition lines fell through as ordinary paragraphs.

Settings

  • New Syntax support tab: switch References, Highlight (==text==) and Superscript/subscript (x^2^, H~2~O) on or off independently. All three are on by default and persist between sessions.
  • The toggles apply to the editor and to HTML/PDF export alike, so an export always matches what you see.

Fixes

  • A footnote definition followed by another definition was silently swallowed — markdown-it claimed [^a]: text as a link reference definition. Footnote definitions are now parsed first.
  • The ^ inside a footnote marker paired with the next caret on the line, so claim[^a] with x^2^ rendered a] with x as a superscript and dropped the real one. Extension scanning now ignores footnote markers, and no longer lets a match span a code span or math range it only starts outside of.

Build

  • Installers for Linux (deb/rpm/AppImage), macOS (dmg) and Windows (msi/exe).

yfmd v0.9.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Aug 20:46

What's new in 0.9.0

Panels

  • The document outline now lives in its own panel on the right of the editor, toggled independently — the left panel is file and folder management only, and the Files/Outline tab bar is gone.
  • F9 toggles the file panel, F10 toggles the outline panel.
  • Drag either panel's inner edge to resize it. Both widths persist between sessions and can also be set from Settings → Layout.
  • Removed the now-obsolete "Sidebar opens on (Files/Outline)" setting.

Menus

  • The Edit menu is split in two. Edit keeps history, clipboard and find (Undo, Redo, Copy, Paste, Paste Text Only, Find / Replace); the new Format menu holds inline styling and block insertion — bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, links, images, headings, paragraph, quote, callouts, lists, tables, code block, math block, horizontal rule and table of contents.
  • Menu bar order is now File, Edit, Format, View, Theme, Help.

View

  • Read-Only Mode (View menu) locks the document against every edit path — typing and menu commands alike — while selection, copy and find keep working. A READ-ONLY badge shows in the status bar.
  • Typewriter Mode is now a View-menu toggle only, freeing F9 for the file panel.

Help

  • Keyboard Shortcuts — a categorised reference (File / Edit / Format / View) of every binding.
  • Markdown Guide — opens the bundled guide as a fresh untitled document.
  • Report an Issue and Check for Updates link straight to GitHub.
  • Refreshed the About tagline.

Build

  • Installers for Linux (deb/rpm/AppImage), macOS (dmg) and Windows (msi/exe).

yfmd v0.8.3

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Aug 13:51

What's new in 0.8.3

View

  • Fullscreen Mode (View menu, F11) toggles real fullscreen — the native window on the desktop app, the browser's fullscreen in the web build — for distraction-free writing.
  • F10 now toggles the side panel (previously F11).

Side panel

  • Drag the side panel's right edge to resize it. The width is remembered between sessions and can also be set from Settings → Layout.

Fixes

  • When a file was first opened, ## headings, links, task checkboxes and #tags could stay unstyled until you started typing. They now render as soon as the document finishes parsing, with no edit needed.

Build

  • Installers for Linux (deb/rpm/AppImage), macOS (dmg) and Windows (msi/exe).

yfmd v0.8.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Aug 22:50

What's new in 0.8.2

Highlighting

  • ==highlight== now renders with a yellow background, reveals its == markers when the cursor enters, and shows raw text in Source Mode.

Selection

  • Fixed text selection across multiple paragraphs, so dragging over highlighted or formatted text selects exactly what you see.

Files

  • .md and .markdown files are now associated with yfmd at install; opening one launches (or focuses) the app.

Build

  • Installers for Linux (deb/rpm/AppImage), macOS (dmg) and Windows (msi/exe).

yfmd v0.8.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Aug 20:36

What's new in 0.8.1

Settings

  • Settings are grouped into tabs — General, Layout and Appearance — instead of one flat list.

Build

  • Installers for Linux (deb/rpm/AppImage), macOS (dmg) and Windows (msi/exe).

yfmd v0.8.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Aug 20:09

What's new in 0.8.0

Menu & editing

  • View → Always on Top pins the window above others.
  • Edit → Undo, Redo, Copy, Paste, and Paste Text Only, with the standard shortcuts.
  • Paste converts rich clipboard text to Markdown; Paste Text Only keeps it plain.
  • Quote and Callout are separate menu items, and callout names show without the >[!NOTE] syntax.

Performance

  • Memoized the per-keystroke math and extension scans and stopped rebuilding decorations on cursor moves, keeping large documents responsive.

Build

  • Installers for Linux (deb/rpm/AppImage), macOS (dmg) and Windows (msi/exe).

yfmd v0.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Aug 18:24

What's new in 0.7.0

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Function-key shortcuts: F1 opens About, F2 renames the selected file, F4 opens Search (Ctrl+F still works), F8 toggles Focus Mode, F9 toggles Typewriter Mode, and F11 toggles the sidebar.

Settings

  • The Settings dialog now has Default, Apply and Cancel buttons — settings still apply live, and Cancel reverts to the state when the dialog was opened.

File tree

  • Click a file or folder in the sidebar to select it, then press F2 (or the context-menu Rename) to rename it in a dialog.

Build

  • Installers for Linux (deb/rpm/AppImage), macOS (dmg) and Windows (msi/exe).

yfmd v0.6.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Aug 08:37

What's new in 0.6.0

Writing & rendering

  • GitHub-style alert callouts — > [!NOTE], > [!TIP], > [!IMPORTANT], > [!WARNING], > [!CAUTION] — with distinct colors and SVG title badges, carried through to HTML export.
  • Table Creator dialog (Edit → Table → Table Creator…) for visually inserting an m × n table, plus row/column add & delete actions on existing tables.

Fixes

  • Rewrote the math block scanner to walk the syntax tree instead of matching $$…$$ with a regex, fixing block math that spanned or bordered fenced code, and excluding math-like text inside comments.

Settings & files

  • Code block line numbers toggle in Settings.
  • Recent Files sub-menu gains per-file removal buttons and disambiguates entries that share a filename by appending the parent folder.

Build

  • Installers for Linux (deb/rpm/AppImage), macOS (dmg) and Windows (msi/exe).
