Axolotl Commander 0.10.0
Installing this build
This build is not notarized by Apple (the project has no Apple Developer ID yet), so macOS
blocks it on first launch. It is meant for users who are comfortable with the steps below; if
you prefer, build the app from source.
- Check the download (optional): put
SHA256SUMS.txtnext to the file and run
shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missing. - Unpack and move
Axolotl Commander.appto/Applications(or~/Applications).
Requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later; the app runs on Apple silicon and Intel. - Allow it once: open the app; macOS says it cannot verify the developer. Click Done,
open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to
Axolotl Commander, then confirm with your password.
Alternatively, in Terminal:xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Axolotl Commander.app". - Folder access: the first time you open Desktop, Documents, Downloads, iCloud Drive or an
external or network disk, macOS asks whether to allow access, once per place. To allow
everything at once, add the app to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access.
Updating: replace the app with the new one and allow it once more (step 3). The folder access
you granted stays, because every release is signed with the same project certificate.
Added
- Settings → Keyboard checks a shortcut before it is assigned. Keys the app or macOS keeps for itself (⌘W,
⌘Tab, the arrows in the panel) and plain letters, which the panel types, are refused with the reason. For
a key that another command, a User Menu item or a macOS shortcut (screenshots, Mission Control,
Spotlight…) uses, it says who uses it and offers Move to This Command or Assign Anyway. Shortcuts that
macOS takes are marked in the list, and while recording a hint explains that a key taken by another app
never arrives. The User Menu editor shows the same warnings. - A second, slower click on the name of the item under the cursor renames it in place, as in Finder; a
double click still opens it. It works in every view, and F2 in Brief and Thumbnails now also edits the
name in place instead of opening a dialog. Settings → Panels can turn the click off. - Tabs can be dragged to another place in their panel (Esc cancels the drag), and Move Tab Left / Move Tab
Right in the Go menu and in the tab's context menu move them from the keyboard (assign a key in Settings →
Keyboard). - Settings → Panels → Tab look: Prominent separates the tabs clearly and fills the active panel's tab with
the accent color, so it is easy to see which tab and which panel are active. Standard keeps today's look.
Fixed
- Dragging several marked items in the Detailed view carried only the item under the pointer to Finder
and other apps. The drag now carries every marked item, with the count shown on the dragged image.

jinou aplikací nikdy nedorazí. Editor uživatelského menu ukazuje stejná varování. - Druhé, pomalejší kliknutí na jméno položky pod kurzorem ji přejmenuje přímo v panelu jako ve Finderu;
- Nastavení → Panely → Vzhled záložek: Výrazný záložky zřetelně oddělí a záložku aktivního panelu vyplní
Opraveno

Added
- Cut Files (⌘X, also ⌃X) puts the marked files on the clipboard; they are dimmed until you paste them,
and Paste Files (⌘V) then moves them instead of copying. Copying or cutting something else ends the
cut. Finder copies files cut here, because macOS has no cut for files that Finder knows. - Duplicate (⌘D) makes a copy next to the item, named as Finder does: "report copy.pdf", "report copy
2.pdf", and so on. - Go → Desktop (⇧⌘D), Documents (⇧⌘O), Downloads (⌥⌘L) and Applications.
- Tabs have the usual Mac keys too: ⌘T opens a new tab, ⇧⌘] and ⇧⌘[ move to the next and the previous
tab.

- Vyjmout soubory (⌘X, také ⌃X) dá označené soubory do schránky; až do vložení jsou zašedlé a Vložit
soubory (⌘V) je pak přesune místo kopírování. Zkopírováním nebo vyjmutím něčeho jiného vyjmutí končí.
Finder vyjmuté soubory zkopíruje, protože macOS vyjímání souborů, kterému by Finder rozuměl, nemá.
- Přejít → Plocha (⇧⌘D), Dokumenty (⇧⌘O), Stažené soubory (⌥⌘L) a Aplikace.
- Záložky mají i obvyklé zkratky Macu: ⌘T otevře novou záložku, ⇧⌘] a ⇧⌘[ přejdou na další a předchozí
záložku.
Axolotl Commander 0.8.0

blocks it on first launch. It is meant for users who are comfortable with the steps below; if

Axolotl Commander, then confirm with your password.
Alternatively, in Terminal:xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Axolotl Commander.app". - Folder access: the first time you open Desktop, Documents, Downloads, iCloud Drive or an

you granted stays, because every release is signed with the same project certificate.
Added
- Fonts: Settings → Appearance → Fonts chooses the font (family, style
and size) of the file lists and of the main window, each separately, in the standard Fonts panel,
with the result shown at once. The file list font is used for the rows, the column titles, the
status line under the panel, Folder History and the hot path menu; the main window font for the
volume bar, the drive row, the path, the tabs, the command line and the function keys. Rows and
bars grow with the font; "Default" and "Restore Default Fonts" bring back the usual look. View →
Bigger, Smaller and Default File List Font change the size from the keyboard (keys can be assigned
in Settings → Keyboard). - Find Files: a double click or Return on a result goes to the
file in the panel, and the buttons F3 View, F4 Edit, New Search, Go to File and Results to Panel
sit under the results. After going to a file the Find window steps aside and Find Files brings it
back with its results and the search text selected, ready to be typed over (Settings → General → After going to a file; "Keep the Find window open"
keeps the old behavior). Find Files in New Window… runs another search next to it; Open stays on
⌘O.
Fixed
- The divider between the panels moved by itself and jumped back after dragging: a long file name
under the cursor or a long folder name in a tab widened its panel. The panels now keep the width
set with the divider, also after the next start. - Find Files: the form was cut off at both sides when the window was narrow, and More Options
pushed the Find button out of sight. The window no longer gets narrower than the form, in any
language.

- Písma: Nastavení → Vzhled → Písma vybírá písmo (rodinu, řez
a velikost) seznamu souborů a hlavního okna, každé zvlášť, ve standardním panelu Písma a výsledek je
vidět hned. Písmo seznamu souborů platí pro řádky, záhlaví sloupců, stavový řádek pod panelem,
Historii složek a nabídku oblíbených cest; písmo hlavního okna pro lištu svazků, řádek disku, cestu,
záložky, příkazovou řádku a funkční klávesy. Řádky i lišty rostou s písmem; „Výchozí“ a „Obnovit
výchozí písma“ vrátí obvyklý vzhled. Zobrazit → Větší, Menší a Výchozí písmo seznamu souborů mění
soubor a Výsledky do panelu.

Alternatively, in Terminal:xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Axolotl Commander.app". - Folder access: the first time you open Desktop, Documents, Downloads, iCloud Drive or an

Fixed
- The app could stop responding for seconds or minutes while an external disk was asleep or busy
with a Time Machine backup, or a network drive stopped answering. The list of volumes, the volume
of the panel's folder, the volume icons and the folder watching are now read in the background, so
moving the cursor or opening the volume menu never waits for a disk. The same goes for the icons
of apps and packages on other disks, the volume buttons, Volume Information…, the Open With menu,
the destination menu of Copy and Move, typing a new name for a file that already exists, and
restoring a tab whose folder is gone. - Volume Information… and the volume menu showed 0 kB free on network drives.
Česky
Opraveno
zálohou Time Machine, případně když síťový disk přestal odpovídat.
svazků, Informace o svazku…, nabídku Otevřít v aplikaci, nabídku cílů u kopírování a přesunu,
zadání nového názvu pro soubor, který už existuje, a obnovení panelu, jehož složka zmizela. - Informace o svazku… a nabídka svazků ukazovaly u síťových disků 0 kB volného místa.

- Copying, moving and renaming on network drives (SMB) and exFAT disks failed with “Operation
not supported”. These volumes cannot rename without replacing, so the app now checks that the
name is free and then renames as usual.
Česky
Opraveno
- Kopírování, přesun a přejmenování na síťových discích (SMB) a discích exFAT selhávalo s hláškou
„Operation not supported“.

Added
- File → Split File… cuts a file into parts of a chosen size (25 MB for e-mail, CD, DVD, the FAT32
limit, or any size typed with k, M or G) namedname.001,name.002, … and optionally writes a
name.crcchecksum file. File → Combine Files… joins such parts again — from any part, the.crc
file or the marked files — and checks the result against the checksum file. Both write into the other
panel's folder by default, check the free space first and leave nothing behind when cancelled. - File → Encode File… turns files into text (Base64 with the file name in a small MIME header, or UUE)
and File → Decode File… turns such text back into files: attachments of saved e-mails (.eml, also
nested and with encoded names), UUE, XXE, BinHex 4.0 and plain Base64, recognized from the content.
Marked pieces are joined in name order; names from the text never leave the target folder, and damaged
or incomplete data is reported.
Changed
- New tabs are added after the last tab instead of after the active one — also a duplicated tab and a
folder opened from a locked tab. Settings → Panels → "Open new tabs next to the current tab" brings
back the old placement.

Added
- Marking with the mouse: ⌃-click or ⌘-click marks or unmarks one item, ⇧-click marks the range from
the cursor (the old marks go), ⌃⇧-click or ⌘⇧-click adds another range, and a plain click starts over
(⌃W brings the marks back). Dragging from empty space draws a rectangle that marks the items it
touches (with ⇧ it adds, with ⌃/⌘ it toggles) and scrolls the list at the edge. In Detailed view
drag & drop starts from the icon or the name. - Settings → Panels → "Right mouse button marks (Norton Commander style)": a right click marks, a right
drag marks the items passed over, holding the right button opens the context menu. - View → Thumbnails (⌃⌥3; Classic Commander scheme also ⌃⇧F1): a grid of previews with the names below,
made by macOS for pictures, PDFs, videos, documents and more, loaded in the background for the
visible cells and kept in memory only. Three sizes in Settings → Panels; ⌘+ / ⌘−, ⌘ + scroll wheel
or a pinch change it while the view is shown. Archives, servers and Network show icons only. - What's New: after an update the app shows once what changed since the version that ran before.
Help → What's New…, the About window and Settings → General open the notes of every version. The notes
come in Czech when the app runs in Czech. - Updates: once a day the app checks whether a newer version is published (Settings → General can turn
it off and has Check Now; also Axolotl Commander → Check for Updates… and the About window). A found
version shows as a small "↑ Version X.Y.Z" button in the title bar, without a pop-up. The update
window shows what the new version brings, in Czech when the app runs in Czech; Install and Relaunch
downloads it, checks its checksum and signature, puts it in place of the running app (the old one goes
to the Trash) and starts it. Running file operations are never interrupted. Remind Me Later and Skip
This Version hide the button; when the app cannot update itself it says why and offers Download…. - Tab locking: Lock Tab keeps a tab on its folder, and every folder change in it opens a new tab right
after it; Lock Tab, Allow Folder Changes lets you browse in the tab and brings it back to its folder
whenever you return to it (and at start). A locked tab shows a lock at its left end (the × while the
pointer is over it) and its tooltip names the locked folder. Close Other Tabs and Close Tabs to
the Right leave locked tabs open; Reopen Closed Tab brings a lock back; ejecting a volume or
disconnecting a server unlocks its tabs. - The tab menu (right click on a tab) and the Go menu add Duplicate Tab, Copy Tab to Other Panel, Close
Tabs to the Right and the two lock commands; the tab menu also has Reopen Closed Tab. - The tab bar ends with "+" for a new tab. Tabs keep a readable width: those that do not fit are in the "»"
menu, and the active tab always stays visible. Settings → Panels → "Always show the tab bar" keeps the bar
(and "+") visible with a single tab. - Every release on GitHub describes its changes in English and Czech.
Changed
- Settings: the panel options (Space, typing, ⌃← / ⌃→, volume buttons, right mouse button, thumbnail
size) have their own Panels tab instead of a section of General.
Fixed
- Dragging marked items in Detailed view: a drag from a marked row did not start; now it carries all
marked items. - A drop onto a folder's icon (in Detailed and Brief view) was refused; it now goes into the folder like
a drop onto its name. - Long descriptions in Settings wrap instead of ending in "…"; a tab taller than the window scrolls
instead of pushing the tabs under the title bar.

Okno
aktualizace ukáže, co nová verze přináší, česky, když aplikace běží česky; Nainstalovat a spustit znovu
ji stáhne, ověří kontrolní součet a podpis, dá ji na místo běžící aplikace (stará jde do Koše)
a spustí ji. Běžící operace se soubory se nikdy nepřeruší. Připomenout později a Přeskočit tuto verzi
najetí myší ×) a její bublina ukazuje zamčenou složku. Zavřít ostatní záložky a Zavřít
záložky vpravo zamčené záložky nechají otevřené; Znovu otevřít zavřenou záložku vrátí i zámek;
druhého panelu, Zavřít záložky vpravo a oba příkazy zamykání; menu záložky má i Znovu otevřít
nevejdou, jsou v menu „»“ a aktivní záložka zůstává vždy vidět. Nastavení → Panely → „Vždy zobrazovat pruh
záložek“ nechá pruh (i „+“) zobrazený i s jedinou záložkou. - Každé vydání na GitHubu popisuje změny anglicky i česky.
Změněno
- Nastavení: volby panelů (mezerník, psaní, ⌃← / ⌃→, tlačítka disků, pravé tlačítko myši, velikost
náhledů) mají vlastní záložku Panely místo oddílu v Obecných.
Opraveno
Axolotl Commander 0.5.0
