I'd rather provide this support via entry points and I've opened #77 to track that. The issue I have here is that it requires the user to specify the addons instead of automatically finding custom providers that the user has installed into their Python.

It never should be automatically added when found.

You can have shared installations and no one shares the same configuration.

By using entry points it wouldn't be added automatically, but it would be available for inclusion without having to add it explicitly to a provider hook.
