Scrib Desktop v1.10.2: images in .rtf files
A rich-text note saved as .rtf now keeps its images. Until now the only way to keep pictures in a note was to save it encrypted as .scrb; now a plain .rtf works too, and the file still opens in Word and WordPad. 643 tests grew to 670. The .scrb format is unchanged.
Thanks to @BadrPost for suggesting this in #25.
What changed
Images are saved inside the .rtf. RTF has its own way to hold pictures, and Scrib now uses it. PNG and JPEG images are stored exactly as they are. GIF, WebP and BMP images are converted to PNG. The width you set in the editor is saved too, and an image with a link keeps the link.
Images come back when you open the file. Scrib reads PNG and JPEG pictures from an .rtf, including ones saved by Word. A file Scrib saved, opened and saved again by WordPad's engine, comes back with its pictures and sizes intact.
Limitations
- An animated GIF keeps only its first frame.
- Tables and SVG images still cannot be stored in RTF. Scrib asks before a save would remove them, and auto-save leaves such a note unsaved until you choose. Save as .scrb to keep them.
- RTF stores images as text, so an .rtf with pictures is about twice the size of the images in it. Scrib keeps the file under 64 MB (roughly 30 MB of pictures) so it can always reopen it, and asks before leaving any pictures out.
- From other programs, only PNG and JPEG pictures come in. Older formats some programs use (WMF, EMF) are skipped, and the text around them still opens. So are pictures over 4 MB or 10,000 pixels on a side, and anything past 500 pictures in one file.
- Image alignment and picture cropping set in Word are not kept.

Verifying this build
Releases are not code-signed, so Windows shows an unsigned-app warning. This release publishes a build provenance attestation, so the zip can be tied to the workflow run and commit that produced it:
gh attestation verify scrib-desktop-v1.10.2-windows-x64.zip --repo beeswaxpat/scrib-desktop
The attached SHA-256 is generated by the same workflow that builds the zip, so it detects transfer corruption but is not evidence of authenticity.
