The first release since v2. If your workflows use benbalter/bulk-issue-creator@v2, they get it automatically.

New

  • GitLab support. Pass --forge gitlab (or forge: gitlab) with a GITLAB_TOKEN to open issues or post comments on gitlab.com or a self-managed instance. Nested groups work in the repository column. See Running against GitLab. (#115)
  • Liquid templates are available with the liquid option. (#16)
  • Rate limits are retried instead of failing the row. (#27)
  • Full repository URLs, such as https://github.com/owner/repo or a GitLab project URL ending in .git, work in the repository column. (#23, #115)

Changed

  • The Action now runs on Node 24 (previously Node 20). Self-hosted and GitHub Enterprise Server runners need to support it. (#80)
  • Values are no longer HTML-escaped, since issues are Markdown: Ben's app stays Ben's app instead of becoming Ben's app. (#80)
  • With liquid on, titles render with Liquid too, not just bodies. A body template's {{title}} is now the rendered title, not the raw column value.
  • A run that hits failures on some rows keeps going but fails at the end, so failed rows don't go unnoticed. (#80)
  • --write with no token now stops immediately with a message naming the flag or environment variable to set.
  • --write, --comment and --liquid are plain boolean flags. (#80)

Fixed

  • CLI flags such as --write, --csv-path and init --path were silently ignored. They work now. (#80)
  • Rows with an invalid or missing repository are skipped with a single warning. (#80)
  • Blank labels and assignees cells no longer send an empty label or assignee. (#80)
  • The log lists every issue created, not just the last one. (#20)
  • YAML front matter at the top of a template is stripped again, as it was in v1, instead of showing up in issue bodies.
  • Comment CSVs without a title column no longer crash the preview.
  • CSVs exported from Excel (with a byte order mark) and CSVs with blank lines parse correctly.
  • init creates missing parent directories, and can no longer overwrite a file created while it runs. (#106, #107, #112)
  • The README's local setup instructions were fixed. (#108)
  • The README's Actions example works without a personal access token for issues in the same repository.
