Lydia 1.4.2
Lydia has a new home
Lydia's packages and site now live in berelels/lydia-releases, at cattastudios.com.br/lydia-releases. From this version on, she looks for new versions there, and her links in Settings point there.
If you have an older version, install this one: older versions look for updates at the old address, which is closing. Nothing else changes from 1.4.1.
The .deb is the recommended package. Checksums: SHA256SUMS.
Lydia 1.4.1
Fixed in 1.4.1
- WhatsApp: messages that didn't show up: after scrolling up a chat in the island (older messages), what arrived or was sent afterwards never appeared at the end, though it reached your other devices. While you are at the end of the chat, it now keeps up with the newest messages again.
- WhatsApp: "Read more" left only a "…" when the message was further back in the chat: it now opens the whole text.
The .deb is the recommended package. Checksums: SHA256SUMS.
Lydia 1.4
New in 1.4
- WhatsApp, hands-on: a right click on a message reacts (the quick ones, or any emoji), replies to it, stars, copies or forwards it. The message you are answering shows over the box. Forwarding uses WhatsApp's own list; groups where only admins send are shown but can't be picked.
- What people do, as in WhatsApp: reactions under the messages, a star on starred ones, the quoted message over each reply, albums as a grid, and view-once messages that say to open them on your phone.
- A new chat with anyone in your contacts or groups, from the pencil in the list. The list now shows six chats, with pinned ones marked, and who is typing shows inside the chat too.
- Send photos, videos and documents from the clip; what you typed goes as the caption, and a "Sending…" bubble shows right away until the chat has it.
- Favorite stickers, twenty at a time, with a button for more. Long texts show their start and "Read more", as in WhatsApp.
- PDFs open in the island, photos open fitted and never slide out of view, and voice messages move smoothly, with their handle, and go back to the start when they end.
- Doodles behind the messages, with Lydia among them.
- Reminders wait for you: they come once you stop using Lydia, with one chime, and two when they end (the 20-20-20 countdown). A notice that arrives while the panel is open shows once it closes.
Fixed
- WhatsApp: stickers are only your favorites, each once, and the one you click is the one sent (another could go, and after one sticker the next ones failed). A sticker of theirs no longer shows as yours. A new message in the chat left open gets its notice. Busy groups open at the newest messages. Groups where only admins send no longer show the box. Bubbles and notices are solid.
- The Apps page lists each app once (a snap and a flatpak Firefox, an old copy left by an update) and groups open windows by app.
- Lydia's own menu opens only on her dark frame, not over a page's content, and no longer has test items.
The .deb is the recommended package. Checksums: SHA256SUMS.
Lydia 1.3
New in 1.3
- WhatsApp, complete: one tick sent, two grey delivered, two blue read (groups too), and a clock while a message goes. Who is typing, online and last seen. Emoji and stickers (animated ones move), clickable links, documents (saved to Downloads and opened), older messages as you scroll up, by day, and calls in the conversation. Voice messages show WhatsApp's own waveform, with its speed button (1×, 1.5×, 2×). A chat is marked read only while you are looking at it in the island.
- System notices in the notch: the battery charging, on battery, low and full; a USB device or drive (with a button to open it); Bluetooth headphones and their battery; the Wi-Fi dropping or coming back; the sound moving to another output; the disk filling up. Each one can be turned off. Notices now wait their turn instead of replacing each other.
- Pomodoro: a page of its own, with focus, short and long breaks and the number of focuses, all changeable while it runs. The closed notch shows what you are focusing on instead of the clock, with a line of time running out around it, shoulders included (red while focusing, green on a break). A chime and a notice at the end of each phase.
- Reminders, each one off until you turn it on: drink water (between the hours you pick, counting today's glasses), the 20-20-20 rule for your eyes (counted down in the notch), and getting up to stretch your legs. Only the time you are at the computer counts.
- Settings in a window of their own, with everything in one place: language, look, the closed bar, pages, chat and voice (keys, voices, shortcuts), WhatsApp, notices, the pomodoro and reminders, and the system alerts' limits. The gear in the island opens it.
- The thin handle over a window has small shoulders, like the rest of the island.
Fixed
- WhatsApp: a message of theirs no longer shows as yours; opening a group whose name has an emoji works (it used to stay on the list and mark the group read); the box you type in keeps what you are writing when a message arrives.
- The player on the closed bar answers the first click (previous, next, play), not only after touching the volume.
- The site's cursor says its word in English too.
The .deb is the recommended package. Every package was installed on clean Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, Fedora 42 and Arch, and started there. Checksums: SHA256SUMS.
Lydia 1.2
New in 1.2
- A cleaner island: it flows out of the top of the screen, with a calm header (the page, the date and time, the weather). The pages you pin are slides (arrows and dots under them, a sideways swipe, the arrow keys); the rest wait in All, where a pin adds or removes one and dragging reorders them.
- Calendar: GNOME's own calendar, your online accounts included, by week, month or year; add and delete events. Today shows today's events and the next one. Needs
gir1.2-ecal-2.0(recommended by the.deb). - Apps opens on your favorites, now with folders (drag one onto another), then what is open and what runs in the background, then the categories. A Windows page switches between open windows without a dock.
- Chat: images and videos, by the clip or dropped on it (up to 4 files, 20 MB). Gemini sees both; Claude and Ollama the images.
- WhatsApp, only if you turn it on: WhatsApp Web runs hidden inside Lydia, linked once with a QR code. The latest chats, a conversation with its photos (zoom and drag), videos, voice messages and read ticks, replies and voice notes, right in the island; new messages arrive as a notification.
- Timer of any length (10, 1:30, 90s, 1h30) that rings until you stop it.
- Capture in Controls: GNOME's own screenshot and screen recording (screen, window or area).
- A notification shows all of itself while the pointer is on it.
- On GNOME, the session can start on the desktop instead of the overview (helper extension v8: update it from Lydia's setup, then log in again).
Fixed
- Bluetooth no longer says "Connecting…" after the device has connected.
- The music bars follow the player's own sound, not a call beside it, and show in Controls too.
- The app search is cleared after opening an app; the categories can be reached with the mouse.
- The open island's shadow no longer ends in a line; the handle over a window is black like the rest.
- Turning a page no longer closes the island when the new one is smaller than where the pointer is.
- The helpers Lydia starts end with her, even when she is killed.
The .deb is the recommended package. Every package was installed on clean Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, Fedora 42 and Arch, and started there. Checksums: SHA256SUMS.
Lydia 1.1.1
Fixed in 1.1.1
- Clicks that didn't land: parts of the island that refresh by themselves (Controls, Today, System, the clipboard, notifications, Apps, the player) could replace a button between press and release, and the click was lost. They now wait while the mouse button is down, and only redraw what changed.
- Chat: "what time is the debate tonight?" is no longer answered with the current time; the question goes to the AI, which now knows the date, time and your city, and can search the web with Gemini when its quota allows.
- When every Gemini model fails, the real reason (quota, overload) is shown.
The .deb is the recommended package. Every package was installed on clean Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, Fedora 42 and Arch, and started there. Checksums: SHA256SUMS.
Lydia 1.1
New in 1.1
- Apps by category: chips under the search (games, internet, media, graphics, development, office, system, utilities). A click filters, again shows all.
- In the background: the apps in the system tray (Discord, Steam, Claude...) at the top of the Apps tab. A click opens the app; a right click shows its own menu inside the island.
The .deb is the recommended package. Every package was installed on clean Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, Fedora 42 and Arch, and started there. Checksums: SHA256SUMS.
