Carriage v1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 09:25

The first release.

  • A writing desk drawn in code: walnut, green baize, a banker's lamp, the typewriter, case folders, a card drawer, a stamp pad and a wire wastebasket.
  • A typewriter keyboard with round keys, Russian and English letters and a shift lock. A Bluetooth keyboard works too.
  • Every strike is printed a little off the line and a little uneven, from a ribbon that wears out. Three machines, each with its own face, sound and worn letters: the office machine, the portable and the electric.
  • No backspace that erases. ⟵ only steps the carriage back. Words are struck out with x's or painted over with correction fluid, twelve brushes a day.
  • The bell rings eight characters before the margin, the keys lock at the margin, and the chrome lever returns the carriage. Tap the sheet to roll the platen anywhere. "Write without looking back" hides what's already typed.
  • A two-colour ribbon (red below) and an underline key. Ribbons wear out after about ten pages and bring a new colour.
  • Four papers: diary pages dated by the dater, index cards that can be typed again, telegrams in capitals paid by the word, and letters through carbon (send, burn or keep the original; the copy stays).
  • Rubber stamps (and stamps made to order), case folders, a drawer that locks with the phone's lock, an index of underlined words, every red line in one place, and search.
  • The wastebasket is taken out on Monday morning. Until then a sheet can be smoothed out again, creases and all.
  • Paper yellows with age. Now and then a page from a year ago slips out of the binder.
  • A counter shows how far the carriage has travelled, plus strikes, bells and more.
  • Sheets can be sent as pictures. Folders or the whole desk go out as PDF, with a backup file and restore.
  • Sounds recorded from real typewriters: keys, the bell and the carriage return. English and Russian. No internet, no permissions.
