Potentially Breaking Changes
-
[#126][#166] Improvements of appendFile(), read(), readFile(), readFileAssets(), readFileRes(), write(), and writeFile() functions:
-
Android, iOS: All these functions now use ArrayBuffer to pass data between JS and Native layers (and viceversa) in binary form (before this, these functions used to (de-)serialize data to pass them between JS and Native layers in form of base64-encoded strings).
BEWARE: So far, this upgrade have been tested only within Example App, and only with RN@0.88. Note, in particular, that ArrayBuffer for Java TurboModules is a new feature in RN@0.88 release, thus this version of library is most likely not backward compatible with previous React Native versions. Upgraded function also deserve more testing in real projects — use them carefully, watch out for possible regressions.
-
Android, iOS: appendFile(), write(), and writeFile() now accept ArrayBuffer data to write, alongside with string data in several encodings they supported already.
-
Android, iOS: read(), readFile(), readFileAssets(), and readFileRes() can now return ArrayBuffer data, alongside with string data in several encodings they could return already.
-
Mac Catalyst: these changes have not been tested, as builds for Mac Catalyst fail due to RN bug (see react/react-native#55540 for details and possible workarounds).
-
Windows: Required upgrades have not been done, thus this version of library is broken on Windows. The last library version verified to work on Windows is v2.39.2 (with
RN@0.86andreact-native-windows@0.83.0). As of now I don't have any reason to spend time on Windows support.
