What's New

This is a big update!

Highlights

Simple theme for one phone and one computer
A new, easy-to-use theme built for people who just have one phone and one computer.

  • See a quick overview of your connected device: name, battery, storage, memory use, and how many messages, emails, and other notifications are waiting on your phone.
  • Drag and drop files between your two devices more easily. You can still pair as many devices as you like and choose which one to connect to.
  • New Locate Phone feature to help you find a lost phone. (Available in the Simple theme for now. Let us know if you'd like it in other themes.)

Stronger privacy
Everything you send through the app is now fully end-to-end encrypted, not just the clipboard like before.

Tailscale support

  • Connect with a simple Sign In with Tailscale button.
  • Advanced users can use pre-auth keys.

More powerful File Explorer

  • Split view lets you see two locations side by side (two local folders, or one local and one remote device) and drag and drop files between them.
  • Sharper, better thumbnails.
  • Filter the current folder, and sort by name, date, or size.

Faster, more reliable transfers

  • Files go straight to the other device (if on same network and Tailscale is on). Large files transfer faster, and interrupted transfers pick up where they left off instead of starting over.
  • Cancel from the live banner, the share sheet, or the queue. Cancelled items stay paused until you tap Retry now.
  • Progress now shows the file name, percent complete, speed, and time remaining.
  • Downloads and pastes go into the folder you chose. A failed copy no longer leaves behind a broken, half-finished file.

File management tools

  • See what's using up your storage with disk usage analysis.
  • Delete files on other devices remotely, which is especially handy for Docker devices.

Backup and sync for Android
Back up and sync your Android files. Other platforms may follow soon.

Docker support
There's now a Docker version (fileapex/fileapex:latest) for transferring files to devices with lots of storage. A Linux AppImage may come later.

Design

  • New Jaded Steel style for the Kinetic Sphere theme, our hero theme, along with a refreshed File Explorer look to match.
  • Cleaner icons in the Clean theme.
  • Device names on the Flux grid are now easier to read on dark cards.

Improvements

  • Smarter updates: The app asks if you'd like to turn on update checking and now downloads the right version for your Mac (Intel or Apple Silicon).
  • Clearer messages: Timeouts, unreachable devices, dropped connections, and full storage now show plain, easy-to-understand messages in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Labels like Clipboard and Copy that were showing as technical text are now properly translated.
  • Faster Android: The app starts faster, and image previews load more smoothly.
  • Docker status: Docker devices now correctly show whether they're plugged in or offline, instead of showing "[TIMEOUT]".
  • Battery friendly: The Wi-Fi lock used for transfers now turns itself off after an hour of inactivity.
  • Smoother startup: The empty "Launch Demo" card no longer briefly flashes when you already have paired devices.

Device Management Fixes

  • Leave cluster and wipe all data now properly disconnects your device, tells other online devices to remove it, and resets the app.
  • A device that has already been re-paired can no longer be removed by an old removal record.
  • A wiped phone that reconnects at the same address no longer brings back its old identity from the cloud.
  • If another device no longer recognizes yours, you'll see a short notice instead of the app wiping itself.

Important: Update Required

Remote file browsing is now faster and more efficient. Older versions of the app will need to be updated to the latest version to keep browsing files on updated devices.
