The first public release of Tuned.

Installing

Install the APK. If the app it replaces is already on the phone, Android treats Tuned as an update, so nothing is uninstalled. On first launch Tuned brings over its liked songs, playlists, listening history, searches and YouTube Music sign-in, then opens on Home. Downloads and the old app's other settings don't carry over.

From this build on, Tuned can update itself: Settings, App, Check for updates.

What's in it

  • In-app updates, checked against the release's SHA-256 before installing.
  • AutoMix: beat-matches songs whose tempos are close and swaps the bass lines halfway. Songs with no clear beat overlap at full level, and beats that would clash still fade.
  • A Videos tab in search.
  • Playlist Playground: type an idea and get a playlist built from YouTube Music searches.
  • Sing: lowers the vocals from the lyrics screen. It's a rough reducer, so centred instruments dip too.
  • Lyrics with duets, background vocals, and one translate and pronounce button.
  • An AutoPlay toggle in the queue, and Music Haptics.
  • Four home-screen widgets: Full cover, Small, Medium and Wide, coloured from the cover.
  • Share up to five lyric lines as a 9:16 story card.
  • One circular loading spinner across the app, including pull-to-refresh.
  • App language is in Appearance; Share logs is in Data and storage.
  • A yearly recap on the You tab: minutes listened, and your top songs and artists ranked by time.
  • Pins: keep songs, albums and artists at the top of Library.
  • Local songs grouped into albums, each with its own page, and a simpler folder list.
  • YouTube Music links open the album, playlist or artist in Tuned.
  • Explicit tags on songs and albums across the app.
  • Music videos keep playing while you open lyrics or the queue.
  • Cast volume from the volume keys and the Sound sheet; EQ and AutoEQ one tap from the Sound sheet.
  • More reliable streaming, including age-restricted songs.
  • A light app icon for light mode and a dark one for dark mode.
  • Widgets fill the space the launcher gives them and can be resized.
  • Bit-perfect and USB settings have their own section, with a warning to change them only if you know what they do. USB exclusive now sets the volume in software and fades in.

Fixed

  • Closing the app now stops the music.
  • Volume jumping to full on USB and bit-perfect output.
  • Headphones going silent until replugged after exclusive USB output.
  • Speed and pitch doing nothing on the main audio path.
  • The sung lyric line sitting too low on songs with a long intro.
  • The album page crashing on scroll when an album appeared twice in a shelf.
  • Liked songs showing as unliked after the app restarted.
  • Lossless add-on requests that were never signed.
  • Artist pages that search can't find, such as ¥$, opening empty.
  • Music videos showing up in Quick picks, and songs playing their music video's audio.
  • Other versions reopening the same album, and album tracks showing a single's cover.
  • Player colours not updating between songs from the same album.
  • A blank screen after pressing back, seeking in downloaded songs, a USB freeze and a search crash.
  • Volume jumping to full on bit-perfect output, including on USB earphones with a built-in DAC such as the FiiO JD1.
  • No sound after turning bit-perfect off while a song played.

Needs Android 10 or newer.
