@capitansuat capitansuat released this 30 Oct 21:54

Vunemi 0.2.4

New in this release

  • Scheduled tasks can act in the apps and on the files you name. When you set up a task you can allow it to use named apps and files, so it finishes while you're away instead of waiting on an approval card. Settings shows what each task may touch, and you can take any of it back. Vunemi's tools for sending, deleting and paying aren't given to these tasks, and mail, messaging, browser and payment apps can't be allowed.
  • Background control reaches further than Calculator and TextEdit. Vunemi can press plain buttons and change text fields in other apps without taking your mouse or keyboard. What an app exposes varies: Excel doesn't expose its cells this way, so Vunemi changes the saved file, and the app's window has to be on screen.
  • The Activity log is grouped and searchable. Rows are grouped by the request that set them off, and you can search them. It had grown to hundreds of rows with no way to find one.
  • Old uncertain results no longer block background documents. An uncertain result from an app that has since closed no longer stops a document from opening in the background. The record stays, and nothing is repeated.
  • "Don't make a new copy" now means the same file. A request to change a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file that said not to create a new copy was read as asking for one, and the model could plan to install its own tools instead of using Vunemi's.

Tried in the installed app: a scheduled task changed an allowed file with no approval card; another pressed a button in Calculator in the background with no card and with focus and cursor unchanged; after its permission was taken back it could no longer press the button and waited for approval. A line was added to a TextEdit document in the background and saved. A Word file was replaced after approval, with the original kept in Vunemi's own folder; getting it back with Undo was not tried. Not tried in the installed app: the wait for an idle Mac before a mouse and keyboard step, and a task stopping for a missing permission, a busy app or a suspicious page. Numbers and Pages were not tested, and Word and Notes were not driven through background control. How well a request is carried out depends on the model.

Installation

Vunemi 0.1.8 and later offer this update in the sidebar and in Settings › Updates; press Update and it installs when no task or meeting is running.

From an older version, or for a first install, download Vunemi-0.2.4-arm64.dmg and drag Vunemi into Applications, choosing Replace. Your settings, models and data stay.

The app is signed but not notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks it the first time. Choose Done in the warning, open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down to Security and click Open Anyway; macOS may ask for your Mac password. If there is no Open Anyway button, check in the same section that apps are allowed from the App Store and known developers, not the App Store only, then try to open the file again.

Coming from a version before 0.2.0: the vault key is read from the Keychain by a helper, so macOS may ask once for your login password when Vunemi opens: choose Always Allow. Vunemi never sees the password.

Vunemi-0.2.4-arm64.zip is what Vunemi 0.1.8 and later download to update themselves.

Vunemi 0.2.3

@capitansuat capitansuat released this 30 Oct 09:17

Vunemi 0.2.3

New in this release

  • Vunemi sees the charts in a workbook. When it checks a workbook it made, and when it reads the cells of a saved Excel file, it now also lists each sheet's charts and the cells they show. Until now a requested chart could not be confirmed, and Vunemi could say a workbook had no chart when it did.
  • A chart over empty cells is refused. A workbook chart that points at cells with no data is now refused before the file is made. Until now a workbook could come out with a chart and no data.
  • No more ….before-edit-….xlsx beside your file. When you ask Vunemi to change a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file itself, the original is now kept in Vunemi's own folder instead of next to the file, where it looked like a second, different file. Undo puts it back.
  • Fewer false failures when Vunemi checks a file. A cell reference such as $B$2 is no longer taken for an amount in dollars, and a number that ends a sentence, as in "March 150.", is no longer dropped from your request and then reported as invented.
  • Which check counts is now spelled out. A task could run out of steps with its file already done, when the model kept checking the file in a way Vunemi does not count. The instructions now say which check counts; whether the model follows them depends on the model.

Tried in the installed app: Vunemi 0.2.3 was asked whether a saved workbook on the Desktop has a chart; it named the column chart, its title and the cells it shows, and left the file unchanged (0.2.2 answered that there was no chart). An earlier build of 0.2.3 made a small workbook that passed its check. Changing an existing file in place, and getting the original back with Undo, was covered by the source tests but not tried in the installed app. How well a request is carried out depends on the model.

Vunemi 0.2.2

@capitansuat capitansuat released this 29 Oct 19:16

Vunemi 0.2.2

New in this release

  • Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are made properly again. Since 0.2.0, a file saved to a path written with ~ (for example ~/Desktop) was treated as uncertain although it had been saved, and later files in the same task were refused. The agent now runs in its own process, and that process now resolves such paths the same way the file tools do.
  • An uncertain save holds back only its own file. When a save really is uncertain, Vunemi still does not write that file again, but it can save a new file under another name. Until now every later file in the task was refused, even after the old one had been read.

Everything new in 0.2.1 is included: add-ons that update with Vunemi, newer add-on programs, and a Needs attention list you can clear.

Tried in the installed app: Vunemi 0.2.2 was asked to make a small workbook at ~/Desktop. The file was saved, recorded as written, then read back and checked, and the task finished as done; in 0.2.1 the same kind of request was marked uncertain. How well a request is carried out depends on the model.

@capitansuat capitansuat released this 29 Oct 14:18

Vunemi 0.2.1

New in this release

  • Add-ons update with Vunemi. When this version opens, the add-ons you have are brought, one after another, to the version its tools were tested with. The old copy is kept until the new one is checked, and a failed update is tried again the next time Vunemi opens. Until now, after a Vunemi update, an add-on that needed a newer version waited until you pressed Update in Settings › Add-ons, and Vunemi could not use it meanwhile.
  • Newer add-on programs. WordCraft and DeckCraft 0.12, GridCraft 0.13, PdfCraft 0.15, VectorCraft 0.18, PhotoCraft 0.17 and FilmCraft 0.14, from the Add-ons 2 shelf.
  • Needs attention can be cleared. Until now old reviews piled up in the list. Mark a task Seen, or all reviews at once; reviews older than 7 days leave by themselves, and a task comes back if something happens in it again. For a Result uncertain task, I checked it only takes it off the list: nothing is marked done and nothing is repeated. Tasks waiting for you stay until you remove them, and a session can be deleted straight from the list.

Tried in the installed app: Vunemi 0.2.0 with all seven add-ons at their earlier versions was replaced by 0.2.1. On the first opening, without pressing anything, all seven were updated from the Add-ons 2 shelf, each one signed and checked, and the earlier copies were removed only after that. How well a request is carried out depends on the model.

Installation

Vunemi 0.1.8 and later offer this update in the sidebar and in Settings › Updates; press Update and it installs when no task or meeting is running.

Vunemi 0.2.0

@capitansuat capitansuat released this 28 Oct 22:38

Vunemi 0.2.0

New in this release

  • Background app work. Vunemi can now work in an app's window in the background while you keep working: press a button, change a field, choose from a menu, scroll. Until now desktop control worked in the foreground, so you had to wait while it clicked and typed. If an action can't be done in the background, nothing is sent; Vunemi does not switch to the foreground instead.
  • No repeats when unsure. If Vunemi can't tell whether an action took effect, it never repeats it. The task is marked Result uncertain and waits for you to check, even after a restart.
  • Needs attention. Tasks waiting for an approval, your answer or a review, from every session in one list. Choosing one opens that exact task.
  • Run permissions. When Vunemi asks to read a file or look at a window, you can allow it for the rest of the task, up to 8 times, instead of approving each read. You can revoke it at any time, and none carries over to scheduled tasks.
  • Scheduled TextEdit work. Vunemi adds fixed text to a document you have open, at up to four times you approve within 24 hours. Each time it keeps a backup and checks the result. It runs only while you are away from the keyboard; a time it can't use is skipped, not retried. Other apps are planned for a later release.
  • Ask about a selection. Select part of an answer and ask a follow-up; the quote goes with your question.
  • Word, Excel and PowerPoint add-ons. They can now use everything their program supports, such as pivot tables, sheets and formulas in a workbook, or slide layouts. When you ask, Vunemi changes an existing Office file itself after keeping a backup next to it, and stops if the file changed after you approved. New documents get readable tables.
  • Moving files. Moving a file keeps a backup and never overwrites a file that is already there.
  • Vault helper. The vault now has its own helper process.

Tried in the installed app: Calculator cleared in the background while someone kept typing in another app (no lost focus, no lost keystrokes), and a file moved with a backup through its approval card. How well a request is carried out depends on the model.

Installation

Vunemi 0.1.8 and later offer this update in the sidebar and in Settings › Updates; press Update and it installs when no task or meeting is running.

Add-ons 2

@capitansuat capitansuat released this 29 Oct 11:49

These files are not Vunemi. They are the add-ons Vunemi can download from Settings › Add-ons: separate open-source programs, kept here as the exact copies Vunemi's tools were written and tested against. This shelf replaces Add-ons 1 from the next Vunemi release on; an add-on you already have is updated from here when that Vunemi opens.

Each file is the project's own published release, byte for byte. Nothing was rebuilt or changed, so each program is still signed by its developer (Learning Machines LLC, team DJ6XS33FX8) and notarized by Apple, and its licence files are inside the archive. Vunemi checks the size, the SHA-256 below and the signature before it installs one, and runs it in a sandbox without network access.

You do not need to download anything from this page yourself.

Vunemi 0.1.21

New in this release

  • Change a document you already have. Until now the Documents and Presentations add-ons could only write a file from scratch, so a small correction meant writing the whole document or deck again. With the Documents add-on Vunemi now reads a Word document and changes text in it, such as a date, a price or a name. The change is made in a copy that keeps the original's formatting; your file is not touched.
  • Change a deck you already have. With the Presentations add-on Vunemi reads an existing PowerPoint deck (titles, text and speaker notes) and makes a changed copy: new wording on a slide, a slide removed, a new slide after the one you name. Text inside tables and charts is not changed, and a text box whose words change takes the formatting of its first words.
  • Drawings as SVG. The Drawing add-on can save a drawing as SVG as well as PNG or PDF. Shapes and text stay editable in a drawing program. An SVG with links, embedded pages or scripts is refused.
  • Nothing half-done. If a text you asked to change is not in the file, no file is made and Vunemi says which text was missing.

Tried in the app with a local model (Qwen3.8 35B) on small synthetic files: a two-place change in a Word document, a deck with a text change, a slide removed and a slide added, and a logo saved as SVG. Not tried: large or complex Word and PowerPoint files. How well a request is carried out depends on the model.

If you have the Documents, Presentations or Drawing add-on installed, nothing needs downloading again: the programs are the same, Vunemi uses more of them.

Installation

Vunemi 0.1.8 and later offer this update in the sidebar and in Settings › Updates; press Update and it installs when no task or meeting is running.

From an older version, or for a first install, download Vunemi-0.1.21-arm64.dmg and drag Vunemi into Applications, choosing Replace. Your settings, models and data stay.

If there is no Open Anyway button, check in the same section that apps are allowed from the App Store and known developers, not the App Store only, then try to open the file again.

The helper that reads the vault key from the Keychain did not change since 0.1.19, so updating from 0.1.19 or 0.1.20 should not bring a Keychain prompt. Coming from an older version, macOS asks once for your login password when Vunemi opens: choose Always Allow. Vunemi never sees the password.

Vunemi 0.1.20

New in this release

  • Add-ons. Settings › Add-ons lists seven sets of tools you can download when you want them: Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, PDF tools, Drawing, Photo editing and Video editing. With them Vunemi can write a Word or PDF document, make an Excel workbook with formulas and a chart, build a PowerPoint deck, join, split and rotate PDFs and fill in their forms, draw a poster as PNG or PDF, crop and adjust a photo, and cut clips into an MP4 with titles, captions, music and cross-fades. Every tool makes a new file, never changes the one it was given, and shows a picture of the result in the chat.
  • What an add-on is. Each is a separate open-source program, one of the ArtCraft team's Craft apps (MIT or Apache-2.0). Vunemi downloads the copy it was tested with from this repository's addons-1 release, checks its size, SHA-256 and signature, and runs it in a sandbox without network access and without access to your home folder: it sees only the files Vunemi copies in for that one job. An add-on can be removed at any time.
  • Fewer wasted approvals. An add-on tool reads its paths and arguments before any approval card: a folder that is not open, a file name already taken or a chart with no numbers is refused without asking you first.
  • Paths a model gets wrong. When a model writes a path under a home folder that is not on this Mac (/Users/someone/…, /home/user/…), Vunemi answers with the right path instead of only refusing. A tool named with its area in front (sheets/sheet_make) is taken as the tool.

Every add-on tool was run in the app with a local model (Qwen3.8 35B) on synthetic files. Not tried: large or complex Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, real phone videos, scanned PDFs. Password-protected PDFs are not opened. Results can differ from Word, Excel or PowerPoint, and how well a request is carried out depends on the model.

Installation

Vunemi 0.1.8 and later offer this update in the sidebar and in Settings › Updates; press Update and it installs when no task or meeting is running.

From an older version, or for a first install, download Vunemi-0.1.20-arm64.dmg and drag Vunemi into Applications, choosing Replace. Your settings, models and data stay.

If there is no Open Anyway button, check in the same section that apps are allowed from the App Store and known developers, not the App Store only, then try to open the file again.

If macOS asks for your password when Vunemi opens after an update: that is the Keychain, where Vunemi keeps the key to its vault. macOS recognises the helper that reads this key by its exact code, and the helper changed in 0.1.19. Enter your login password and choose Always Allow; it will not ask again until a later update changes the helper. Vunemi never sees the password.

  • Calendar: two accounts, one calendar name. When two of your accounts have a calendar or a reminder list of the same name, Vunemi asks which one before it adds anything, and takes the name with its account, as "Work (iCloud)". Before, the event went to whichever came first. An event or reminder put back after a delete returns to the calendar it came from. Connections now lists the accounts your calendars come from; that list was always empty.
  • Automations. A damaged automations file no longer keeps Vunemi from starting: the file is kept as automations.json.unreadable and the list starts empty.
  • Voice chat. Speech files left on disk when Vunemi quit mid-sentence are removed the next time it speaks.
  • Under the hood. Electron 44.7.0, TypeScript 7.0.2 and vitest 5.0.3. A picture's path is resolved before it is checked against Vunemi's own folder.

The calendar change was tested with stand-in calendars, not against real accounts.

Vunemi says its answer sentence by sentence while it is still being written, in your Mac's own voice, and you can speak over it: it stops and listens. It listens by itself, taking only a near voice for a turn and turning itself off after 45 seconds in which nobody speaks, or only when you press the microphone: hold it, or tap to start and tap again to end. Listening by itself cannot tell you from someone talking beside you; with other people in the room, choose pressing.
  • Meetings: who said what. When a recording ends, the voices heard through the computer can be told apart: Person 1, Person 2… You name them, merge two that are the same person, or give a line to someone else. It tells voices apart; it does not know who anyone is, and it can be wrong. It is off until you turn it on in Meetings, needs a one-time download and runs on your Mac.
  • Personality. In Settings › Personality, write in your own words how Vunemi should talk to you, in at most 1,500 characters. It is for tone and style only and does not change what Vunemi may do. How closely it is followed depends on the model.
  • History. A line now shows the sentence where the session or meeting says what was asked for. New sessions are prepared in the background rather than while a request waits, and History has its own icon in Connections.
  • Small things. A plain name or address field beside contact details, and phone fields, now count as personal fields the app refuses to type into. An address written out in an answer, not only a link, gets "unverified" beside it.

Measured on a 44-minute Turkish podcast with three people, against its published transcript: every line was put with the right person's voice, but the three people came out as eight (two were advert voices, the rest short stretches of the same people). The extra ones are joined with "Same person as…".

Installation

Vunemi 0.1.8 and later offer this update in the sidebar and in Settings › Updates; press Update and it installs when no task or meeting is running.

From an older version, or for a first install, download Vunemi-0.1.18-arm64.dmg and drag Vunemi into Applications, choosing Replace. The app is signed but not notarized by Apple; macOS may require Open Anyway on first launch. Your settings, models and data stay.

Vunemi-0.1.18-arm64.zip is what Vunemi 0.1.8 and later download to update themselves.
