v1.0.0
Gamdl GUI 1.0.0
The first release of the rewritten Gamdl GUI. The whole interface was moved from
the original customtkinter script to PySide6 (Qt) and reworked around
gamdl 3.x, and the app now ships as a self-contained bundle that needs no
Python and no gamdl installation.
Highlights
A real desktop UI. Native Qt widgets, a resizable three-pane layout, a
dark / light / system theme, and a coloured console that renders gamdl's ANSI
log inline with a reliable progress bar and current-track label.
Sign in without leaving the app. The old workflow made you export
cookies.txt from a browser. There is now a built-in Sign in to Apple Music
button that opens the OS webview (WKWebView on macOS, WebView2 on Windows), lets
you log in normally — 2FA included — and captures the media-user-token cookie
for you. Importing a cookies.txt still works, and the previous file is backed
up when it is replaced.
Built for gamdl 3.x. gamdl 2.9.3 could no longer parse Apple Music's
homepage, so this release targets 3.9 instead of patching the old version, and
exposes everything 3.x added:
- song codec priority (
alaclossless, the AAC/Atmos/AC3 variants) - folder & file naming templates (album, compilation, playlist, single /
multi-disc, …) - selectable DRM backend (
widevine/playready) with.wvd/.prddevices - synced-lyrics format (
lrc/srt/ttml) and lyrics-only mode - cover image format / size, M3U8 playlist export, filename truncation
- download database, log file, temp directory, external tool paths
- wrapper decryption settings (
--use-wrapper, URL, decrypt host / port)
Options that 3.x removed (MP4Box / mp4decrypt paths, remux mode, …) are gone
from the UI too — gamdl now muxes and decrypts with its own bundled engine, so
neither MP4Box nor mp4decrypt is needed any more. Only ffmpeg is still
required, and only for the optional nm3u8dlre download mode.
Self-contained downloads. Each bundle contains the Qt interface and the
gamdl engine as two executables sharing one set of dependencies. Nothing to
install: unzip and run. The GUI always launches gamdl with --no-config-file,
so a stale ~/.gamdl/config.ini can never override what you configured in the
app.
English / 中文, switchable on the fly, and the window size, theme, output
directory and every advanced option are remembered in config.json.

Unzip and run — Gamdl GUI.app on macOS, Gamdl GUI.exe on Windows.
SHA256SUMS.txt is included.
macOS first launch. The bundles are ad-hoc signed (no Apple Developer ID
and no notarisation), so Gatekeeper blocks the first launch. Right-click the
app → Open → Open, or clear the quarantine flag once:xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/path/to/Gamdl GUI.app"
Notes
- You still need an Apple Music subscription, and the
media-user-token
cookie, to download. The GUI handles both. ffmpegis only needed for thenm3u8dlredownload mode; the default
ytdlpmode needs nothing extra.- Upgrading from an older build? The GUI reads your existing
config.jsonand
migrates the renamed options automatically.
Verified
- A real download through the frozen bundle: an Apple Music track came out as
AAC 261 kbps with an embedded cover, embedded lyrics, and a sidecar.lrc,
finishing with0 error(s). - The macOS
.apppassescodesign --verify --deep --strict, and both the
macOS and Windows bundles were built and smoke-tested on native CI runners.
