The window split currently only allows one kind of tab, it could be made more flexible to allow more scenarios, like having a msysgit console next to an application log console, and next to a iPython console. Console should allow to group two tabs in a single split, and vice-versa. For the UI, Sublime Text 2 has such split behaviour with tabs which could be mimicked.

This is a nice to have feature to make split windows much more useful. Possibly even have a tab kind starting a pre-defined Windows split.

@wernight: How many time have you planned to code this new feature?

I must admit this one seems pretty big and more a suggestion to keep and
see. I've got a lot on my plate, but I did offer to help merging features.

Actually, I am confused by how the tabs & splits work. They act too different; I would expect them to be the same.

This would be really cool. It does seem to be marching towards a full multiplexer. I can help document tmux behavior if that would help.

This would be really cool.

Besides, the ability to create new splits or tabs from the command line would also be great and add a lot of flexibility. This can be done on Linux using Konsole, for example.
