GamePKG 0.1.17 adds app updates to the Linux and Windows desktop apps.
- Open Settings → GamePKG updates to check the official repository for a newer stable release matching your operating system and CPU.
- Download, verify and install the new portable version into a folder you choose, then Restart into updated GamePKG after closing running games.
- Downloads are checked against the release SHA-256 checksum; executable hashes and build identity are verified before installation. Unsafe archive paths, links and excessive expanded sizes are rejected.
- Your existing app copy is kept for rollback. Your game library, ROM selections, saves and settings remain in place. Update your shortcuts to the newly installed copy.
- App updating requires no Python, WSL or administrator access. Linux downloads require curl. Windows game compilation still uses the separate, opt-in matching Linux compiler setup described in INSTALL.md; this is separate from updating the app.
Users on 0.1.16 or older must download and extract this release once to get the app updater. Later stable releases can be installed through Settings. App update checks are manual and separate from periodic game update checks.
Includes Linux x86-64 and Windows x86-64 CLI and GUI applications, setup instructions, corresponding engine and dependency sources, and license notices. No ROMs or commercial game data are included.
Validation: 252 Rust regression tests, updater tests under Windows/Wine, Linux and Windows release builds, desktop download/install/restart and damaged-download rejection, and verification of the actual packaged archives. SHA-256 files are included beside each download.
