stemLM v2.0.0 — Chrome & Edge Extension (Manifest V3)

stemLM turns answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok into a study workspace beside your chat: numbered steps, formulas, diagrams, quick checks and saved solutions.

This major release expands the original Gemini extension with four-provider support, a redesigned study panel, a much broader local figure compiler, and improved saving and PDF export.

Install (unpacked)

1. Download stemlm-2.0.0-chrome.zip from Assets below. Choose this file, not GitHub's automatic source-code archives.
2. Unzip it to a permanent folder on your computer.
3. Open Chrome → chrome://extensions, or Edge → edge://extensions.
4. Enable Developer mode.
5. Click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder. It must contain manifest.json at the top level.
6. Confirm version 2.0.0, then open ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok. Refresh existing chat tabs if needed.
7. Type a question or attach a problem image/PDF, press the orange stemLM +, review the prepared draft, and press Send. stemLM does not send messages for you.

Updating from an older unpacked version: keep the extension installed and replace the files in its existing folder, then press Reload on the extensions page. Export important saved questions to PDF first. Uninstalling, clearing storage, or loading a different folder can remove or separate your saved library. Full installation and update guide.

What's new since v1.0.0

• Four chat providers: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, with provider-specific guide attachment, answer capture and chat navigation handling.
• A redesigned study panel: Steps and full Solution views, KaTeX formulas, takeaways, quick checks and contextual Ask in chat follow-ups.
• Broader STEM figures: local rendering of typed specifications for plots, tables, circuits, physics and mechanics, chemistry, biology, engineering and computing. Figures compile to SVG in your browser without an LLM or rendering server in that path.
• Figure validation: malformed, unsupported or failed figures are hidden as complete sections while the rest of the explanation remains available.
• Improved guide delivery: stemLM Guide.txt, visible loading feedback, confirmation of attachment, and protection against duplicate clicks and stale drafts.
• Saved questions: a searchable local library, workspace recovery, individual PDF downloads and merged revision PDFs.
• Reading preferences: light/dark/system theme, five content sizes, default Steps/Solution view, adjustable panel width, automatic opening and optional sharing across tabs.
• Lighter startup: the study panel loads when first opened. IBM Plex and KaTeX fonts are bundled with the extension.
• Release packaging: production MV3 build, license notices, installation instructions, SHA-256 checksums and machine-readable build information. No tests or source maps are included in the extension ZIP.

Requirements

• Desktop Google Chrome 116+, or a compatible Microsoft Edge version.
• A supported provider at chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com or grok.com. Your provider's account, plan, usage and upload limits apply.
• Firefox and mobile browsers are not supported by this release.

Privacy and permissions

No stemLM account or study-content backend is required. Questions, parsed answers, saved solutions and figure rendering are processed locally by the extension. Your chat provider receives the content and attachments you give its website and may upload attachments before you send.

This v2.0.0 build disables extension analytics and ships no telemetry endpoint or credential. It has no analytics toggle. Fonts are bundled locally. External links and images supplied in answers can still contact their respective hosts.

The extension requests storage, unlimitedStorage, tabs, downloads and scripting, plus access to the four supported provider sites (including their www variants), for saved work, chat integration and PDF export. See the Privacy Policy and Terms.

Notes and limitations

• AI answers and diagrams can be wrong. Compiler validation does not prove that a model understood your problem or that its reasoning is correct. No first-response accuracy percentage is claimed.
• Unsupported or invalid figures are omitted; some questions will have an explanation without a diagram.
• PDF export preserves the rendered appearance through paginated images; it is not a vector-only or fully selectable-text export.
• Chat providers change their websites and upload behavior. Report reproducible integration issues with the browser, provider and extension version.
