ZCombine has been rebuilt from the ground up. The batch-script generator
is gone; v2 is a Python-native, cross-platform project aggregator
with a new CLI, a rewritten GUI, and a much faster combining engine.

🚨 Breaking Changes

v1's .bat workflow is gone.

v1 v2
zcm setup → generates zcm.bat zcm setup → generates zcm.config.json
Run zcm.bat to combine Run zcm combine to combine
Windows only Windows + Linux

Existing users must reinstall. The installer cleans up v1 automatically.

✨ Highlights

  • 🐍 Python-native core — no more batch, no more PowerShell, no more
fragile string parsing. Up to 100× faster on large projects.
  • 🐧 Linux support — full installer, desktop entry, uninstaller.
  • ⌨️ New CLI — zcm init, zcm setup, zcm combine.
  • 📝 JSON config — zcm.config.json, committable and shareable.
  • 🎨 Rewritten GUI — fresh "Midnight Aurora" theme, click-to-toggle
    chips, graceful error handling.
  • 📦 Portable builds — zcm-portable.exe / zcm-portable for
    no-install usage.
  • 🌳 Project mind-map — optional tree at the top of the output for
    better LLM context.

v1.0.0 - Initial Release: Point, Click, Combine! 🚀

@cheloei cheloei released this 14 Aug 05:29

We are thrilled to announce the first official release of ZCombine (ZCM)! 🎉

ZCombine is here to eliminate the friction of preparing project contexts for Large Language Models (like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini). Instead of manually copying and pasting dozens of files, ZCombine provides a ridiculously simple GUI to generate a highly optimized, zero-dependency batch script tailored to your project.

✨ Key Features in v1.0.0

  • Visual Configuration (GUI): A modern, dark-themed interface to easily define target file extensions (e.g., .py, .js) and ignore directories (e.g., node_modules, .git).
  • 100% Standalone Output: The GUI generates a zcm.bat file. This generated engine runs natively on Windows using Batch and PowerShell—no Python or additional tools required on the target machine!
  • Precise Folder Ignoral: Advanced boundary matching ensures directories are ignored accurately, preventing the notorious partial-match bugs found in standard CLI tools.
  • AI-Optimized Context: Automatically strips whitespace-only lines and formats the output into a clean, UTF-8 encoded text file (zcm_output.txt) with clear file headers.
  • Seamless OS Integration: Comes with a built-in installer that adds ZCombine to your system PATH and Windows Right-Click Context Menu ("Setup ZCombine Here").
  • Git Ready: One-click option to automatically add the generated scripts to your .gitignore.

📦 How to Install

  1. Download the zcm-setup.exe (or .zip file) from the Assets section below.
  2. Run the installer to automatically configure your PATH and Context Menu.
  3. Right-click anywhere in your project folder and select "Setup ZCombine Here" to get started!
