SegaSonic v1.2.2
The native port of Sega's 1993 arcade game SegaSonic The Hedgehog: not an emulator, but the game's own
program decompiled into C (segasonic-decomp) and built for
Windows, Linux and macOS, and, with its assets made on your computer, for the Nintendo Switch, Android and
Anbernic's handhelds.
No game data is included. You need your own MAME ROM set: sonic.zip, SegaSonic The Hedgehog
(Japan, rev. C). Put it beside the game, or drop it on the window the game opens the first time: the game
checks it and takes out what it uses, once.
| System | Package |
|---|---|
| Windows 10 or 11, x64 | segasonic-windows-x64.zip |
| Linux, x64 | segasonic-linux-x64.tar.gz |
| macOS 11 or later, Apple silicon and Intel | segasonic-macos-universal.zip |
| Nintendo Switch | made by SegaSonic NSP, in each package above |
| Android 7 or later | made by SegaSonic APK, in each package above |
| Anbernic's H700 handhelds, stock firmware | segasonic-anbernic.zip |
What is new since v1.2.1:
- WIDE: after the cage room, on the tower's platform in the sky, the tower was cut where the arcade's
picture ends and the sky took its place; it is whole now, as the map holds it (and so is the tower beside
the waterfall as Sonic falls). On every system with WIDE: the computers' console version, the Switch and
Android. Found on Android.
The Switch's .nsp and the Android APK are made again with this release's SegaSonic NSP and
SegaSonic APK (their switch and android folders hold the game with the fix); an APK made with the
same key installs over the last one and keeps what the game wrote. What they make, and the Anbernic folder
with your pack in it, carries your ROM's assets: it is yours alone, never share it.
SDL2 and the C runtime are built into the computers' executables: nothing else to install. The macOS apps
are not signed by a developer: the first time, open one with right click → Open (on macOS 15 and later, try
to open it, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway).
The game was checked frame by frame against MAME, picture and sound, on Windows and Linux, and played on a
Mac too.
Controls, settings, the Switch, Android, Anbernic's handhelds and where the game keeps its files: see the
README. The licenses of what the executables contain
are in each package (LICENSE.txt, licenses/). SegaSonic The Hedgehog is a trademark of SEGA. This
project is not affiliated with or endorsed by SEGA, nor with Nintendo, Google or Anbernic.

What is new since v1.2.0:
- Anbernic's H700 handhelds have a package:
segasonic-anbernic.zip, the folderPORTSfor the card's
Roms/. PlaySegaSonicon your computer once with yoursonic.zip, put thesegasonic.assetsit writes
inPORTS/segasonic/, and copyPORTSto the card (itsREADME.txtsays where the computer keeps the
pack). Played on the RG40XX H: 4:3 at 60 frames a second, MENU leaves the game, the volume keys work. - macOS has been played on a Mac.
From v1.2.0: the Nintendo Switch (SegaSonic NSP makes the .nsp from your sonic.zip and your console's
keys) and Android (SegaSonic APK makes the APK from your sonic.zip, signed with a key of yours: keep it,
so each new APK installs over the last one), both tools with a window; a picture of yours named icon.jpg
beside them is the icon of both. What they make, and the Anbernic folder with your pack in it, carries your
ROM's assets: it is yours alone, never share it.

What is new since v1.1.0:
- Nintendo Switch.
SegaSonic NSPmakes an.nspof the game's Switch build (the folderswitch
beside it), yoursonic.zipand your console's keys (prod.keys), to install as any homebrew.nspon a
console with Atmosphère and signature patches. 16:9, the controls fixed, HOME leaves it. Played on Eden;
not yet on a console: reports are welcome. - Android.
SegaSonic APKmakes an APK of the game's Android build (the folderandroidbeside it) and
yoursonic.zip, signed with a key of yours that it makes the first time and keeps in your own folder:
keep it, so each new APK installs over the last one. 16:9, touch controls (a stick where your thumb
lands, A and START) or a Bluetooth or USB game controller; the pause has CONTINUE and EXIT. - Both tools have a window: drop your files on it (the keys,
sonic.zip, a picture for your own icon),
choose where the file goes, and make it. A picture of yours namedicon.jpgbeside them is the icon of
both. From a command line they work as before. - Anbernic's H700 handhelds (the RG40XX H, stock firmware): a folder for
Roms/PORTS, built from the
source with Zig (see the README). 4:3, 60 frames a second, MENU leaves it, the volume keys work. - The board's video is drawn on several cores on every system, a band of rows each: the frames are the same,
as the 98 scripted runs show.
What the Switch's and Android's tools make carries your ROM's assets: it is yours alone, never share it.
SDL2 and the C runtime are built into the executables: nothing else to install. The macOS apps are not

SegaSonic v1.1.0
The native port of Sega's 1993 arcade game SegaSonic The Hedgehog: not an emulator, but the game's own
program decompiled into C (segasonic-decomp) and built for
Windows, Linux and macOS.
No game data is included. You need your own MAME ROM set: sonic.zip, SegaSonic The Hedgehog

| Windows 10 or 11, x64 | segasonic-windows-x64.zip |
| Linux, x64 | segasonic-linux-x64.tar.gz |
| macOS 11 or later, Apple silicon and Intel | segasonic-macos-universal.zip |
What is new since v1.0.0:
- The arcade game is SegaSonic Arcade (its executable, .app and window), so the package's two games
tell apart: SegaSonic, the console version, is the one to play. Each package has aREADME.txt
that says which is which, the first run, the controls and where the files are. - In SegaSonic the mouse is a pointer until you click in the window: from then on it is player 1's
trackball. A pause gives the pointer back, and a click takes it again; who plays with keys or a game
controller keeps the pointer. - The executables and the macOS apps have an icon of their own (a trackball; nothing of the game's).
- The C the game is built from reads all of the program's data by name, with no number left where a name
goes, and builds with GCC 15. The game plays the same: its 98 scripted runs still match MAME frame by
frame, picture and sound.
SDL2 and the C runtime are built into the executables: nothing else to install. The macOS apps are not
signed by a developer: the first time, open one with right click → Open (on macOS 15 and later, try to
open it, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway).
The game was checked frame by frame against MAME, picture and sound, on Windows and Linux; the macOS build
has not been played on a Mac yet: reports are welcome.
Controls, settings and where the game keeps its files: see the README.
The licenses of what the executables contain are in each package (LICENSE.txt, licenses/).

Each package has two games:
- SegaSonic, the console version: no coins, a menu (START GAME, TIME ATTACK, OPTIONS), up to three
players with their own keys and game controllers, WIDE 16:9 stages, OPTIONS (difficulty, continues,
window, pixels and a CRT look, controls, volume, sound test, stage select), TIME ATTACK with best times
and splits, and the captions in English. - sonic, the arcade version as the board runs it, matching MAME frame by frame: coins, the test mode,
the trackball on the mouse.
SDL2 and the C runtime are built into the executables: nothing else to install. The macOS apps are not
signed by a developer: the first time, open one with right click → Open (on macOS 15 and later, try to
